Food is very very average, service is lousy, they put things on you bill (olives) that are served for free at all other places. Staff was not friendly. Avoid this place.

Five of us ate here. We had to wait a very long time for our order to be taken. Other tables seated after us seemed to be attended to first. When we pointed out that we had been waiting for a long time, the waiter brought olives and garlic bread. We were horrified when these then appeared on the bill.... More

I was looking for an Italian restaurant to have a quick dinner. Il Borgo did not disappoint. Staff was attentive and the dish I ordered, a variation on Chicken Parmesean, was very tasty and filling.

We popped in here at about 5pm on the way to the Royal Albert Hall. We were given a choice of tables and chose one by the window but it was too cold. However they took in their stride our request to move further inside and moved all our bread, drinks etc with no complaint. I had lemon veal escalope... More

We had a nice dinner starting with the minestrone soup and chicken livers. I had sea bass and DH had the veal scallops in a lemon sauce. The food was very good as was the service. The size of the first courses was such that it would be reasonable to order a second first course rather than a main course.... More

A wonderful meal! This was a delicious meal, our last for awhile in London. I highly recommend the excellent food and service.

We went here because there was a long wait at Da Mario and this place wasn't crowded. Having eaten at both I can assure that there is a reason for the difference in traffic! The food wasn't bad at all - I'd call it adequate but nothing to write home about. The waiter was not friendly - bordered on being... More

Walked past this restaurant to start with as it was completely empty and a little earlier than we had planned to eat, after wandering past a couple of hours later it was still empty but thought we'd give it a try. Service was relaxed, which we loved as don't like being rushed. Olives and garlic breads served while waiting for... More

I wouldn't have expected such shocking food from a restaurant in this area. The meal was awful, I wish we'd gone next door instead. If you do decide to visit, take a stroll down to the toilets, past the kitchen before you order. That should be enough to put you off

On a recent visit to London, my wife and I wanted to go to the highly rated Italian restaurant next door, but with no reservations and a line out the door we decided to try Il Borgo...what a mistake! I suspect that the only reason this place survives is because of the spillover from their popular neighbor. From the start... More

Staying in South Kensington

Neighbourhood Profile
South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.
