The lady at the entrance was polite enough and showed me to a table, gave me a menu and then I waited . . . and I waited . . . and the waitresses kept walking past refusing to look my way. After more than 10 minutes I gave up and left. It's not a case of poor service but... More

I met a Danish friend for a celebratory lunch. The maître was very good, we were shown to a quiet table and our shopping was put safely away. We both chose chicken liver pate which was fine, but both our main courses were rather dull. My pan roasted cod was pretty tasteless and my friend's shepherd's pie, although large and... More

I made a reservation for the Saturday before Easter thinking it would be packed. While the museum was, the restaurant was pretty empty and I was seated right away while I waited for my friend. I wasn't offered a menu until she showed up about 10 minutes later, and then we waited an additional 15 minutes before someone came to... More

The food and service are average here, but the setting is magnificent. Set above the former reading room in the British Museum, diners find themselves at the top of the museum - while there is no significant view once seated, the ascension up the steps remind you this is a special location. The menu ranges from British standards like Shepard's... More

My daughter and I had afternoon tea at this wonderful place. We had a glass of prosecco with our wonderful selection of treats all equally delicious. We then had time for a wander around the museum but couldn't do it justice in just 2 hours, you would easily need 2 days there - so main fascinating exhibits to see. I... More

We went there for a coffee. After being sat down we placed our order to be abruptly told you have to have something to eat as it is a restaurant, so my wife ordered a soup ( which was very nice). The waitress placed a soup spoon with my cutlery and placed the bread on my side as well. The... More

This has a great atmosphere and the awning above the tables makes you feel as if you are sitting outdoors somewhere in France. We both had the Caesar salad with a Diet Coke for a quick business lunch. Both came with lots of lettuce but very few anchovies, few croutons, no garlicky mayonnaise and very little dressing. It tasted more... More

This was also a nice museum, a bit of a walk from the tube and when I went their was a wonderful exhibit, but their restaurant was closed for refurbishment and they had a tent outside to dine and the weather was cool, so I didn't not eat there.

If you really want the afternoon tea get on line and book. The have an impenetrable system if you just turn up. We arrived just before 3 to be told afternoon tea doesn't begin till 3 and to wait in the queue. Head waiter was wandering about at a snail pace, heaps of empty tables but we had to wait... More

Average food, in what *could* have been an awesome environment. But 1.5 hours to have a salad and a cold dessert is just ridiculous. Spent most of the time just trying to attract the attention of the waiting staff, who gave the impression that they just couldn't be bothered.

Neighbourhood Profile
Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
