The service here was good and not too over the top. The food was good but it wouldn't necessarily make me want to return visit. I had the duck salad which was ok and then the mutton curry which was very nice and about the...More

This restaurant came recommended by a local and it didn’t disappoint. The oysters were simply divine. Steaks brilliant. A solid wine list topped off a brilliant experience. Friendly and knowledgeable staff too.

We'd booked a table for 8 well in advance. On the day they ran out of sharing steaks, Smithfield market is just over the road ! Prawns were overcooked and sent back. Scallops, Oysters and Treacle tart were excellent. The dining area is attractive and...More

I dined here with my family for a pre-Christmas celebration. Everything was fantastic. The waiter was very hospitable and the food was absolutely brilliant. We sampled lots of dishes between us, and everything was great. We found room for desert, and that too was fab....More

Made a second visit to this place for lunch on a Thursday. The restaurant was pretty quiet & we had a good table near the windows. Oysters followed by a couple of steaks to share. The steaks were particularly good & cooked to perfection. Good...More

Went on a Monday evening to take advantage of the "bring your own bottle" deal (we all know restauraunts make their profit on crazy wine markups). Also Barbican residents get 25% discount which is very generous and a great incentive to go. This is upmarket...More

A delightful lunch for 4, food excellent, although service felt a little rushed. The front door is stuck so you need to give it a really good shove to get in - not such an elegant way to start. Squid starter, followed by steak &...More

Description
HIX Oyster & Chop House is situated a stones throw from Smithfield Market, London’s historic meat market. Originally a sausage factory and then a fish restaurant, many of its original features remain. The wooden floors, marble oyster bar, tiled walls and linen tablecloths go towards creating an elegant yet unfussy dining room. The menu reflects Mark Hix’s signature British style with seasonal and daily changing dishes featuring oysters from around the British Isles, and a selection of meats and steaks on the bone.
