The MICHELIN Plate: Good cooking
Simple restaurant
The original Bombay cafes have almost all disappeared. Their faded elegance welcomed all: rich businessmen, sweaty taxi-wallas and courting couples. Fans turned slowly. Bentwood chairs were reflected in stained mirrors, next to sepia family portraits. Students had breakfast. Families dined. Lawyers read briefs. Writers found their characters. Opened early last century by Zoroastrian immigrants from Iran, there were almost four hundred cafes at their peak in the 1960s. Now, fewer than thirty remain. Their loss is much mourned by Bombayites.

Really lovely food, drinks and service. Recommend the dahl special, it’s fantastic! Also think it’s nice that they offer hot chai to people queuing in the cold outside. However I have to remove a star for the most *disgusting* ladies loos I’ve been to for...a while. I had to queue to use a loo with an overflowing sanitary bin and used pads stuck on the floor. Upon leaving, I alerted a member of staff and they seemed pretty disinterested and blasé about getting them cleaned. Just took the shine off the evening to be honest!More

Excellent as always - lovely Indian tapas style food great staff and great atmosphere . It can be expensive if you over-order ( which is very easy to do as everything is lovely ) .

We recently visited Dishoom after 2.5 yrs and was really looking forward to it. We booked a table of 8 as it was a family celebration lunch. The table we were given was butted against another table of 4 so there was no space for...the person who sat inner most to move put unless he asked the next table to move or all the other 3 people in our party. One big disappointment was that they have removed chilli cheese toast from the menu, which we were looking forward to eating. (My mistake for not checking the menu before hand). The food overall was average nothing jumped out as amazing. Maybe I was expecting a lot. I have had better before. Lastly we went to celebrate our 10th anniversary and had also mentioned this in the special request/additional comment section while booking, we were in no way made to feel special. I wasn't expecting any free food more in terms of conversation like wishing us or in general making a bit of extra effort. (I have experienced this before with other restaurants when celebrating birthdays etc). So I went in with very high expectations but was left feeling a bit blah with food and everything else.More

Dishoom is a MUST while in London! I highly recommend you make a reservation because it’s very popular and busy (for good reason). The decor makes you feel as if you’ve entered another era, so much attention to detail! The food was incredibly tasty and...authentic; The flavors you experience from each dish is indescribable! Great service, great food, great surroundings. I look forward to visiting again one day!More

Visited here for lunch after reading many good reviews. At first they took us to a table that was unsuitable for us and when we said we did not want to sit there they were reluctant to let us move. The service by out waiter...Andrea was fantastic with her regularly checking to see we were okay and taking her time to explain the menu. Food was good but my partner took the chicken tikka, there is no sauce with the chicken tikka which is disappointing. Otherwise the rest of the food was great.More

I am just so disappointed with my visit as I have heard so many good reviews and I specially planned my visit to eat but wasn't aware that you have to book it in advance. We stood in the queue and the waiting time went...from 40 mins to 1 hour 10 mins. All the people in front of us went in within 20 mins and we had to wait so long in cold. When we finally went in there were at least 30 tables free which made me even more disappointed that they didn't even bother to think about people standing in cold and not even caring about us standing for 1 hour 10 mins in cold and not giving updates. The girl standing outside was so cold and not at understanding. I wouldn't say the food was bad but when you have such bad experience its really hard to get over that. Specially when the bill included 12.5% service charge which was atrocious considering I didn't get any service. I wouldn't recommend to go there just because its so hyped up.More

Let me start by saying that I love Dishoom! The food is always great and atmosphere.is brilliant. But this was our first time visiting the new Covent Garden site. Arrived 15 minutes early for our table and we were asked to remain outside until the...table was ready, no issues there but was surprised to walk in and see so many empty tables and I did wonder what the wait was about. Seated in a small area to the left of the entrance, with about 6 tables in total, very out of the way. Nice enough but downstairs is much nicer and has a much better atmosphere so worth asking for. Server came over about 5-10 minutes after being seated and we were able to give him our drinks, starters and mains order in one go. Starters were delivered quickly, unfortunately drinks were nowhere to be seen and did not arrive until starters were nearly finished. Food was delivered by several other members of staff and we did not see out waiter again until mains were nearly finished. This was disappointing as we had wanted to order more drinks throughout the meal but just couldn't get anyones attention. Even once the server did come back, he took my drink order of spiced rum, told me he didn't think they stocked it but would check, disappeared, came back cleared a table, went off again, only to come back quite a while later to confirm they did not stock spiced rum! Again, really confused by way there was such a delay in dealing with a simple order. That was the last time we saw him. Drink was delivered by another member of staff and only when another staff member came to clear another table were we able to get ours cleared and ask for the bill. All in all, the food was amazing as always and we had been seated and eaten all our food within 1 hour which was great but the service just wasn't there at all. We were out celebrating and had every intention of enjoying a good few drinks but in the end we only managed to order one bellini, one beer and one rum and coke, purely down to lack of service and attention. Don't get me wrong, they won't go out of business over two customers, but an £80 bill probably would have been double that if not more (at about £8-10 per drink) had we been able to order some.More

We walked off the street. Waiting time kept extending beyond an hour 45. Then 2 hrs. Gave up. Standing in the rain. Unfair. Why not let us in ...there are 6 of us.

Our waiter Rich was amazing, very helpful as it was our first time eating at a Dishoom and recommended great dishes. All the staff there were very attentive and we’ve never had service quite like it. Food was incredible, there wasn’t one dish that we...didn’t like and I will definitely be back to try more of the menu. Definitely recommend getting a reservation in advance, I booked for 5pm and by half 5 there was a massive queue outside. Only downside would be the lighting at the restaurant, made it difficult to read the menus but I suppose that adds to the vibe of the place.More
