We use the Shad a lot for takeaway so decided to have our end of year meal there. The diet coke was warm and from plastic bottle and we request a glass of ice for drinks but got one ice cube each? The cauliflower Bhaji was disgusting and obviously not something they are used to cooking. Basically boiled cauliflower. The... More

After a long day in the City, my colleague and I were desperate for some good Indian food and visited the Shad, as the location is superb, being so close to London Bridge. The interior is very contemporary and attractive - though in contrast to the scruffiness of the basement, where one has to go to visit the lavatory. The... More

The restaurant is quite nice with food from different parts of India including the specials sections. Some of the staff don't speak English very well and it can be some difficulty getting what you want across to them. But they are very friendly and helpful and the food is good, although it could be spicier.

Hands down the best food my wife and I had since we moved to London. We got a chicken , lamb and shrimp selection a potatoes and spinach side and two different types of rice. The service was excellent. If you are in London ( by tower bridge or London bridge ) do yourself a favor and walk in.

Was visiting london and decided to go to a local indian restaurant, after a quick search I came across Shad. Selection of food was good, however I ordered the aloo chaat and when it arrived I had to ask the waiter what the dish was because it certainly did not look or even taste like aloo chaat. Also ordered the... More

It's the nearest Indian take away to work and it smelt great. I ordered a take away Chicken tikka Massala. The order was taken with a minimum of fuss and when I recived it the food was piping hot. It was spot on from the way it should taste but I'm no expert on Indian food. Would definitely come back... More

I've eaten here twice, both times thanks to it's proximity to London Bridge train station. It's nothing spectacular, but what you get does the job and does it well. There's normally a good atmosphere - busy without being too raucous, and the service is attentive. At my last visit I had the mixed special starter, which was delicious. The mixed... More

We just popped in for lunch as everywhere else was very busy and I was pleasantly surprised. Prompt service, as they worked out we had time constraints, very good chicken tikka with chapatis and rice, and nice yoghurt/mint sauce. Pappadums were 5/10 though. Not that busy so good for a quieter business chat.

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
