The doorman was nice enough to get us seats at the bar - a little loud as you are on top of the bartenders but impressive to watch them work. Its very dark and atmospheric way to start the evening (not an issue in winter). Not cheap but the cocktails are unique, beautifully presented and taste great. Not bad before... More

Beautiful hidden place in Marylebone, antique classic place with piano play. Very creative cocktails, each designed differently and tastes really nice. Good for a chill evening with your friends or for a special date.

Disappointing cocktail bar with poor service and a poor atmosphere. They claim to have an extensive cocktail and drink list but can't even muster up a Bloody Mary or White Russian! There are certainly better places in London

Love Purl, tucked away in Marylebone, it's like an underground apartment, dark lighting though, needed my phone light to read the menu. staff are attentive and very friendly. there is loads of space so you don't feel crowded like every other bar. i would say you should definitely book a spot before you go as everyone has to be seated... I was looking for somewhere for a pre-dinner drink and came across this place on google maps. Looked really interesting and I ignored the negative reviews and gave it a try. What a find. I loved it. Great drinks and great music (jazz) in a fab location. Waiting staff were all really friendly and helpful added to a great environment... More

I met 2 friends here, one I hadn't seen for over 20 years. I had booked a table for 2 hours. It's a great venue, quirky design, excellent selection of drinks, and it is easy to talk in there. All the staff were helpful and friendly with the exception of the manager on duty. I am sorry I didn't get... More

Discovered by chance , top enthusiastic service by very friendly bar and service staff who look like they enjoy working there . Would say the drinks are expensive but it's all about the show and the alchemy and so two people two cocktails each plus olives and a service charge £60 . Take a bar seat and watch the bar... More

This place was made for intimate or private occasions. Beautifully decorated with ambient lighting (although a bit dark in places). There's no standing allowed so you'll always have your own table (of sorts) and booking is advisable because once all the tables are gone there's no entry. Great home made cocktail list, I didn't recognise any of them but the... More

We visited in October. It wasn't what I had expected and definitely isn't one of the best speakeasies in London. Firstly I was shocked that they would charge so much for such tiny drinks. One of my drinks must have been less than 50ml and lasted me about 5 mins, yet it cost £12. Not very good. The drinks are... More

Purl was fun to visit. It was more of a dark bar with small areas to sit. The serves and bartenders were friendly and efficient. The cream cheese filled peppers are outstanding. The cocktails were different but I should have stayed with more traditional ones. I am glad I tried Purl but would not go out of my way to... More

Staying in Marylebone

Neighbourhood Profile
Marylebone offers what so many London neighbourhoods cannot: a village feel coupled with urban convenience. Much of its success rests in its location. Wedged between the northeastern corner of Hyde Park and the southern end of Regent's Park and with a number of Tube stations within easy reach, Marylebone is as pedestrian friendly as Central London gets. The bustling shopping mecca of Oxford Street separates it from Soho and Mayfair, exclusive Regent Street marks its border with Fitzrovia, and cosmopolitan Edgware Road serves as its western edge. Within this enviably situated quarter are an array of outstanding restaurants (from Michelin darlings to down and dirty cheeseburgers), an impressive assortment of independently owned shops, and some of the city's quietest and most pleasant nooks, crannies and cobbled lanes.
