This was okay-ish - nothing special. Staff a bit reticent and shy and not very friendly. My mushroom in blanket was over herby (thyme predominated), but okay - £2.50.

I'm tempted to give a poor review as I would like to keep this gem of a place a secret. The spot is ideal if you're visiting the Newport Street Gallery. Don't expect 5 star surroundings but if you enjoy delicious wholesome fresh food at a fantastic price and in a spacious and relaxed environment, go and visit. In the... More

Lovely sun filled cafe with a casual and rustic feel. Super looking open sandwiches, though we only had coffee and cake on our first visit. Original recipes for cake - mine was a sort of chocolate brownie, but made with beetroot! Delish. Can't wait to go again. The cafe is located in the burgeoning Vauxhall art quarter, close to Damian... More

Even before we entered, we could detect a smell of overused cooking oil wafting out of the doors. Inside, the smell was pervasive; there didn't seem to be any ventilation. The staff were offhand and didn't seem familiar with the set-up. There was only one menu for all the tables and cutlery was scarce. The fried egg on my bubble... More

Great place for lunch. Very nice atmosphere + nice and friendly people. The food is very good, we had a veggie lasagna and open sandwich with humus and vegetables: delicious!

Out with a mate taking a look at the newly opened Newport Street gallery across the road, currently without a cafe/restaurant, we chanced upon the Beaconsfield Gallery (well worth a mooch around) and the Ragged Canteen. Just wanted a little bite and both settled for Gorgonzola and Fig on sourdough bread with coffees. All very tasty and service good. After... More

After seeing the reviews of the ragged canteen we thought we would pop in, but unfortunately our experience was quite the opposite of the previous reviewers. So much that it's hard to believe it's the same cafe. Our experience started badly, Although I'd phoned to make a reservation, they had forgotten so there were no tables available on our arrival.... Delicious vegetarian food and coffee served in an old school, now art gallery. There is a peaceful outdoor space with herb garden, and art exhibitions inside. Very friendly staff, good music and generally lovely, tranquil atmosphere.

Hidden away in Vauxhall, but 2 mins from the embankment. We arrived towards the end of service but had some tart and the best potato salad ever. The bread and olives were free and delicious. Incredibly good value. The staff were very chatty and friendly. Worth seeking it out for a tasty lunch

Entry is via an unassuming door on Newport Street - press the buzzer and someone will let you in! Once in, the food is very honest homecooking and reminded me of cooking my mum used to make. Portions are plentiful and healthy. Service is relaxed and friendly.
