I had lunch here with a friend on a recent visit to London. I hadn't eaten at Jose for a year or so having moved to France but the standard of food, wine and service remains exceptionally good. The following dishes were ordered: aubergine tortilla, tomato bread, croquetas, patatas bravas and goats cheese with honey. All of the dishes were... More

I've been to Jose's many times and I've enjoyed it every single time. The place is tiny - expect to be rubbing shoulders (literally) with an eclectic bunch of people. It's well organised and the quality of food is just brilliant. You simply cannot go wrong with any food you choose. The bottom line is: delicious food, amazing wines (albeit... More

Excellent tapas (almonds, olives, bocquerones, pan de tomates, mussels, prawns, jamon, lamb cutlets, fried goat cheese)! If I didn't see the public house sign across the street, I would have thought I was in Madrid. As others have said, it is a small restaurant - not sure if they take reservations.

I had high hopes following a couple of previous visits to Jose in the last couple of years and it did not disappoint! Absolutely delicious food - I can't pick a favourite dish they were all so good. As ever, the place was really crowded so took us a while to get a table, but as it turned out the... More

Handy drop-in on Bermondsey Street. The place can get really crowded as it is very small. Good authentic tapas and a refined selection of Spanish wines. Always good and always busy.

Three of us lunched here early... we were waiting for the doors to open at 12 noon. The GFG recommended this small, corner locale in the increasingly trendy Bermondsey Street. What a great find... The seating is on high stools at a couple of tables, at the bar, around the walls and looking out on the street. The staff are... More

Loved this place for lunch. It's small but cosy and it is definitely worthwhile to wait for a seat or standing area. We had roughly 5-6 tapas plates between 2 of us and it was definitely enough, felt very satisfied afterwards. We ate: The croquettes were soft and beautiful. The jamon iberia was also amazing and had a very interesting... More

I popped in for a quick lunch as my friend only had an hour to spare. We noted how busy it was at 1.30pm, always a good sign. We were quickly shown to a table and ordered mixed charcuterie, prawns in garlic oil a salad and tomato bread. It wasn't long before the food came and I was impressed with... More

My son and I were looking for a light mean and a drink, and we tried Jose based on a recommendation. We stopped by without a reservation and were directed to a standup table. We ordered some wine and later ordered the roasted peppers, panne tomate, and fried goat cheese with honey. We were able to move to a high... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
