This is the restaurant of choice for me when I want a lunchtime treat. Their beer battered fish is always cooked to perfection and I find myself drooling just thinking about it. I always have problems with their selection of starters - I want them all! I can recommend the oysters, the whitebait, the crispy squid and the soft shell... More

Dinner mid week. Friendly, attentive staff but in a restaurant that was almost empty and badly over lit. Starters of mussels in white wine and cream and soft shell crab were pretty average. Battered fish and chips (a speciality) were large and well presented but the fish was tasteless and the batter thick and stodgy. Reasonable bottle of Malbec. Probably... More

I've found this place by chance and I was definitely well impressed. Staff very welcoming and friendly, food sooo delicious! I tried the fish soup as a starter and the fish pie as a main, both of them simply amazing, tasty and so good. We were sitting by the window with the heating just next to us so very cozy... More

Still on the search for fish and chips in London where you can sit and eat in comfort a top quality product. Gales gets half way there. The location just one short block from Notting Hill Gate Tube was salubrious, the decor and furniture comforting and the staff efficient, welcoming and happy to converse (We were early, the place was... We had the best fish in a long time!! The service was amazing, the food was tasty and delicious. We saw good people giving the best and the staff open and ready to have a good service and an open conversation with their clients. We had fish and chips, also we had a starter ( the Chef's sugestion) and dessert.... More

Recommend a reservation. We were able to grab the last table available without one. Skate was excellent and the girls runnning the restaurant were great. Very friendly and service was fast! Not far from the Notting Hill station, so quite easy to get to.

I was in this restaurant 25 years ago and loved their fish & chips. 25 years later, I went back and the food is as delicious. The fish melt in your mouth and the chips good... I went mid-afternoon and the atmosphere was relaxed. Good value and inexpensive eating.

Just finishing a really lovely meal with friends. Mostly seafood menu but there are a few other options. Very friendly and efficient staff, excellent food which we thoroughly enjoyed. A more sophisticated and relaxed venue amidst the bustling Portobello Road area. Recommended.

I have been visiting Geales for over ten years and I recall the blue period circa 2002 as being the best. It always had the feel of an upmarket fish shop. This is no longer my local as I have moved on, but I always make a point of checking in on my return. The fish and chips are flawless... More

We ate here on 09.09.16 and it was a lucky find. I was one of a party of six and it was a little later in the evening, the party had no booking and we just turned up after having been given the place as a recommendation from staff in a Pub that we'd been in earlier. The staff were... More
