Reviewed yesterday NEW

Recently arrived back in London, we set out in search of a decent breakfast on a Sunday. Village East certainly looks the part and to be fair the staff were pretty great too. Our major hang up though, is going anywhere for breakfast and leaving hungry. Pathetic portions I'm afraid, and bread from a pre sliced white loaf. Not good.... More

Lovely evening at Village East. They managed to find us a spot at the bar for food and the atmosphere was great. Special mention to Karen the waitress for exceptional service and a great recommendation on the wine.

Such great service from Karen! Knowledgable and great fun. Knew the menu and recommended some amazing dishes. Awesome food!! Wine tasters were provided and then cocktails; of which the Chocolate Old Fashioned was the cream of the crop. Rage against the machine kept us going.

Pet friendly restaurant in the delicious Bermondsey street. Went there for dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday on a Monday evening. Didn't have reservation but didn't need one. The place is big. Karen was really nice to us and explained the dishes very well. Her suggestion for the turkey leg was impressive. My husband loved! It was huge! I had... More

Food was really good but the service was patchy at best. 15 mins to get the bottle of wine we ordered and significant delays on both courses. If someone told me they had booked it for another meal I wouldn't say no but certainly wouldn't be my number one choice. Shame as was somewhere we used to go often -... More

Good food with great service! Karin was amazing and recommended the best wine for the food. Even though we arrive a little late the service was class.

We have eaten here before, and at last had an opportunity to revisit as we had enjoyed our first experience. Interesting menu presented within Industrial chic surroundings. This visit was on a very busy Sunday evening on a Bank Holiday weekend. Despite staff shortages, the staff remained very attentive and cheerful as they ran around taking orders and serving a... Quite trendy restaurant offering wonderful drinks and sumptuous food. Had a good eat here with friends over a weeknight dinner and the service we have received was spot on. You're spoilt for drinks options, whether pre- or after-dinner. Yes, the Nightcaps on the menu is good to have esp on a cold evening!

Village East restaurant in chic south London enclave Bermondsey Street is designed to call to mind a hip East Village establishment in Manhattan. It sprawls through a listed warehouse and glass-fronted apartment building and is decorated in polished concrete, rough wooden pillars, striking curved white chairs, and a wide open kitchen. Sit back and enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine while watching chefs hard at work creating the modern eclectic dishes that make up the Village East menu. In laymans terms, this means European flavours and techniques are coupled with South East Asian influences, resulting in some intriguing combinations. We had our eye on the seared scallops and caramelised pork belly with carrot puree and teriyaki glaze; and the West Cork beef burger with sauteed foie gras, caramelised onion, jumbo gherkin and chips, but if youre more in the mood for a steak, or fish and chips, theres plenty of that on offer too.

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
