Visited for breakfast last week - two couples. We hadn't booked but were able to get a table . Initially plenty of room but the place soon filled up - clearly very popular. We all ordered different meals for breakfast but all agreed the quality was excellent and reasonably priced. Lots of character with a nice busy ambience. Service was... More

Churlish staff, everything is a mental and physical challenge. In its previous incarnation, The Honest Cabbage, the venue was perfection and a destination. Over the past few years it's somewhere we don't even think of going.

We went to The Garrison because we saw it from the outside one night around London brigde. The location is nice and cosy and the food is unexpectedly good for a pub. We had cod with vegetables and it was really good! The service was neat and quick. We were in the basement which is really nice and much more... More

Lovely lovely atmosphere if not much space for drinks only. Five stars because I was so Impressed with the staff customer service. I chose wrong and didn't like my crab risotto...nothing to do with the way it was cooked but it just wasn't for me... hey it happens. I declined a generous offer of a replacement meal and the risotto... More

Went for early evening drinks and found the place was packed on a Thursday evening. Would think that a lot of the trade comes in from the offices in the surrounding area. Food not exceptional and seating was quite cramped but good fun. Great place to arrange a get together however be prepared to be squashed up and it might... More

Staying at the nearby Hilton Tower Bridge, the concierge recommended The Garrison to me. Saturday evening I stopped by around 19:00 and the place was packed. No room for me - traveling on my own for business. Instead I made a booking using Open Table for Sunday very late afternoon. I am glad I did. The place was hopping and... More

They've invested heavily in creating a comfy shabby-chic ambience and on a Saturday night the place is buzzing. Menu includes a good range of interesting offerings and there's an adequate range of wines and beers. A mid-range wine, by the glass, is £6. The food is ok, although on the pricey side. A frugal cheese platter included a wedge of... More

Was there for lunch and had great fish & chips with tartare sauce and mashed Ps. Quick & friendly service, only downside was the rather tiny booth we were sitting in - did not invite to stay for a dessert or coffee.

Nice atmosphere and very friendly and professional staff. Good selection of wines. My steak order got messed up twice. I ordered medium and the first time they made it well done and the second time it came raw and blue. But the staff handled it well, they were very apologetic and asked if I wanted something else instead. I then... More

I've been here twice recently - once in November on a Saturday night with 7 friends and more recently last Wednesday night with 6 other friends and both times thoroughly enjoyed this place. Great menu - starters are around £8 mains £18-22. I had crab risotto and my friend next to me the mussels - both delicious. For main I... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
