We shared the Spring set menu for 2 (GBP45 per head). Sharing platter of salmon and beef skewers, smoked chicken goujons (unusual and rather tasty) and fried and steamed dumplings all of which was fairly tasty and not overwhelming in terms of portion size (a good thing). Aromatic crispy duck pancakes were good and three pancakes each was about right... More

This restaurant had a great atmosphere. You walk down a black spiral staircase, into the underground restaurant with brick walls etc. The staff were friendly and attentive. I had pork dumplings and crispy duck along with tea. About 6 hours later I couldn't stop throwing up and had waves of crazy stomach pain. Lovely atmosphere, not lovely after effects! Perhaps... I have often lunched at Imperial City over the years and I am glad it can constantly maintain the high standard of food and service I have always experienced. A great restaurant in the centre of the City.

Love this place, hidden underneath the Royal Exchange, it offers an extensive menu of freshly cooked Chinese cuisine. Service great. Decor kitsch but all the better for it!

Enjoyed a set menu lunch here recently when visiting friends in London. Service and food were good but it lacked atmosphere and was very very quiet which was surprising for the City on a week day. Wine was cold, food was hot, can't say anything bad about it, just didn't have any wow factor.

I dined here yesterday with a work associate. I live in Bermuda, an island which has limited Asian cuisine. I was craving this style of food. I was not let down. From starters to "check please" everything was wonderful. Really wonderful. Do yourself a favour and dine here.

I have been here a few times and the food is very good especially the Peking duck . My only complaint is that every time I go here the staff look like someone has died . Quite bizarre but the food is worth it

Was here after drinks at a nearby Bar, it was part of my birthday party, and some of my friends wanted to try... I have been before, many times, and can say Its easily one of the best Oriental restaurants I've ever been to. Service is outstanding, restaurant is perfect, clean and has a great atmosphere. Highly recommend this place.

Tucked under the Royal Exchange its a good fun place for a meal. A cut above the average Chinese and the location is lovely. Had the festive menu which was excellent value.

Description
Tucked into the vaulted cellars of the 400 year old Royal Exchange, the beautifully decorated Imperial City is full of happy bankers and city suits sampling the very high quality Chinese menu. Celebrity chef Ken Hom has created the imaginative menu and all the food is beautifully presented. Favourite dishes include spicy chilli prawns and crispy aromatic duck. Three set menus encourage sampling, or the a la carte allows you to choose favourites. Vegetarians will be happy too.

Staying in City of London

Neighbourhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
