We visit York about half a dozen times a year and this place is always on the itinerary due too the wonderful food real ales and a at home welcome from the proprietors. Food is only served 12-2 on week days so be sharp you will not be disappointed.

Casual lunch with no messing around. Straight talking landlord/manager made us very welcome. Great selection of real les and amazing food. The chilli was super hot and a bit of a challenge but very nice and great value. Lovely staff and very welcoming place. Can't wait to go back ! Thanks Shaun !

If you like real Ale at good prices and like to drink it in a proper Pub give this a try. For a Tourist hot spot I was surprised how many locals supped in here but there is the proof of its quality.

A good pub for adults and a great pint of Black Sheep. The new outdoor area added some much needed space. A good place to meet friends from the station.

Our favourite pub on our recent mini 'craft ale tour' in York. We went to York Tap, the House of Trembling Madness, the Bluebell and Sutlers. Both of us loved the quirkiness here and bf was very impressed with the large selection of beers on offer. It felt like a proper pub; I miss those. We didn't eat here but... More

Always visit this pub when we go to York! The drinks are good and the food looks amazing however if you want to eat best to book as most of the tables in there are already reserved. We managed to sit and have a drink. Always a busy pub and a nice atmosphere!

We are so glad we managed to get a seat in this wonderfully quirky pub. We didn't eat but saw the huge portions, great choice of ales and ciders. The staff were really friendly and made us very welcome. Shame we leave tomorrow as we would have gone back for lunch
