What a fantastic place this is. A couple of levels of imported and English ales and lagers, loads and loads of spirits which many are bespoke and not just the usual big brands. A fantastic array is found here. So many you will be bewildered...at the choice. Then, the public room on the 1st floor level is just fascinating. A small bar with great staff serving adds to the quirkiness of the entire building. So much to take in as you look around the room with a whole load of taxidermy and centuries old relics to keep you interested. A good selection of ales is on offer and I am told the cold wine served was lovely also. You must venture in off the street and you will be amazed once inside, really really interesting place.More

The atmosphere and drink list at House of Trembling Madness make it a must if you are visiting York. Go up the stairs in the bottle shop to find the pub. This isn't a big place so you may have to wait to get a seat...but it is worth it. There is a great selection of cask and keg beers, and you can buy...a bottle/can from the shop and bring it up. We went twice and had food on both occasions. Really enjoyed the Pie and Pea tapas. Very friendly and efficient staff. Very reasonable prices. Highly recommended.More

A gem of York. A lovely, homely, cool, interior. A wide range of beers and gins and an eclectic food offering in terms of both main meals and tapas. We had the schitznel, steak pie and tapas as a group. All of the portions were...very generous and the food was absolutely delicious. We had numerous round sir different gins, beers and vodka mixers and felt the final tab was a reasonable price. Would definitely revisit when in York again.More

Called in for a pint and dinner on the back of the TripAdvisor reviews. I love a good pub. (Shop on ground floor, pub upstairs). Quite a quirky place with a few stuffed animal heads on the wall. Great choice of beers etc. Delicious food....We had Yorkshire tapas, a steak pie, peas and mash with a jug of the most delicious meaty and oniony gravy, all washed down with a pint! What more can I ask for on my wedding anniversary 😍🍻🥧More

A quirky place with a great selection of real ales and good tapas. Odd curiosity’s and friendly staff - even when faced with a larger group. Would definitely recommend if you fancy something different to the usual chemical pint and ideniltkit pub.

With a name like that you just have to go in, and what a place right in the bustling center of the action. The bar is upstairs for Belgian beer and real ale and downstairs for spirits and cocktails. You have to walk through the...best beer , spirits and liqueur selection I have ever seen outside of Belgium there is a bewildering array of anything brewed , fermented and distilled. The beer pub upstairs is decorated in a medieval style cosy corners and candles a great beer selection including Lambic beer on tap . Great off the wall staff make this place a must visit.More

Visited several times over a few weeks ,loved everything about the place. The staff are welcoming and fun and I felt very at ease even though I was in there alone and might have felt self conscious about that . Food and beers delicious and...really good prices for the food . Of all the places in York I visited ,this was my favourite place to eat and drink .There are several floors beyond the ground floor so plenty of room ,I always got a table . Very well run I would say ,thanks to all the staff especially the guy with pink hair on 1st floor for great service !More

We popped in for lunch at the end of my hen weekend after we’d been recommended to visit. It was not a disappointment! We ordered 3 platters which the chef put into one huge platter for us, and it was incredible. An amazing mix of...cheeses, breads, meats, pickles all presented beautifully. Service was so friendly and quick. Will be coming back for more!More

I would say no. It’s a small space upstairs and they serve food. Not sure your dog would appreciate being sat up there
