Stopped for a coffee en route to walk around the city walls. Oat milk latte was lovely, partner had a coffee, it was served in a smallish cup and really not much more than half full. Milk was served separately so perhaps that explains it....No vegan options in the cakes which surprised me as I don't think I've ever seen so much choice for vegans as I have done in York. Looking at the reviews this place is obviously popular and succeeding at what it does so perhaps there is not a feeling that vegans need to be catered for...but even just one option would be nice!! I can only assume the oat milk option is due to so many people being 'dairy free'. Great setting, enjoyed sitting in the sun people watching!More
This is a lovely welcoming cafe with friendly staff and a great menu. I was in a rush for a quick bite before going on a walking tour of York and found this great cafe by chance! A great find. I explained I was short...on time and within minutes my delicious York ham sandwich and salad arrived! Enjoyed it so much I returned there later on in the week! Great location just a stone’s throw from York Minster and bathed in sunshine on my visit. Recommend without hesitation.More
I was looking for somewhere for brunch overlooking York Minster and chose Bennett’s. The setting is perfect and the staff friendly and attentive. We had the full English which was delicious and very filling. The only thing that could’ve made it better is if there...had been an available table outside. Never mind, it just means I’ll have to come back again! Highly recommended.More
Can you get a better view than this over breakfast in York? Is so, I want to know where.
Lovely, friendly staff were very accommodating, they’d bend over forwards for you.
Menu slightly limited but the bacon butty was absolute perfection. Enjoy!
Stopped here for lunch on a baking hot day - perfect choice! Helpful friendly staff and a great view for people-watching around the minster itself. The food was absolutely delicious (I definitely recommend the goats cheese salad),and was served with a smile☺️. Thankyou!
Having arrived in York with our luggage and unable to book into the hotel early we found Bennet's for some lunch. Food was perfect and fresh, staff very helpful and friendly location absolutely fabulous ( the weather certainly helped for outside dining).
we dined here...every day of our trip and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The food was always high quality and I will certainly be back here on our next trip.More

I think you are forgetting that she was with a group of friends who did in fact order desserts and tea themselves. Given that she was in a party that did make a reasonable order, I see that your question and point is very null and irrelevant. If Hannah were to go in alone and order just that then I could see how her review would be outlandish but if you actually open your eyes and read the article in its entirety, you will see that she was out in a party of a few people who did order a substantial amount of food and beverage. As a party, they did not order just nothing, and regardless, backlash like that from a waiter in person or as a response to a review is nothing but uncalled for. I don't believe that the customer is always right but the cost of a slice of lemon and hot water is almost negligible with regards to the finance of a restaurant. If the cost of the water and lemon slice is that substantial to the well being of the place then they are clearly doing something very very wrong. You may be a restaurant reviewer but your pallet for picking up on situations in their entirety is almost abysmal.
