First class experience, expertly provided by Ben. Such a wonderful host, my Husband was especially impressed by the tomato and pepper consume. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. We had a wonderful choice of tea to choose from and enjoyed a second pot/top-up....The menu was excellent with us getting to try everything on it as opposed to having to choose either or, unlike some other places. You get what you pay for and more! I was thoroughly overjoyed at the traditional scones being plain and with currants (I love scones, alas despise currants so it was fantastic not to have to pick them out!) The whole experience was just such a joy, enhanced by Ben and Classical background music. We had booked for 4pm so we were some of the last ones out as the museum closed at 5 though Ben didn't rush us and everything was just spot on. It was a pure highlight of our wedding anniversary trip, we'll certainly be back <3More

We were bought this experience by a close friend but had to delay due to lock down. Carriage was a lovely setting and background classical music was ideal. Our waiter was Ben and he was extremely courteous throughout the experience. Food was delicious with absolutely...no complaints. We would certainly be happy to return for another experience. Ben you are an asset to the team. Many Thanks.More

Amazing service from Ben,very accommodating of our needs, lovely setting on the train,we had the carriage to ourselves. Made my big birthday very special and a day to remember. Good choice of cakes and sandwiches. Plenty to eat with free top up of tea and free...extra sandwiches, where as bettys do not offer extra sandwiches or tea top ups now,so far better value here and more special. we were able to take home any cakes,we had not managed to eat. we had a lovely walk around the museum afterwards. Free car parking for the day,so we walked into the city centre too. We look forward to coming again soon, thank you.More

I booked this for my partner as part of our visit to the national train museum. It’s a really special experience with only 6 people dining in total in the carriage when we went for 4pm. I was in a wheelchair and Ben our waiter...and host was wonderful, helping me with the wheelchair lift and ensuring a ramp was placed to get me into the carriage and making sure I was well looked after. Thank you Ben. The experience was amazing, amazing crockery and tea set and beautiful silverware teapots and milk jugs (all cold). The food was lovely our favourite was the lemon and lime posset which was lovely. After Ben ensured that we were escorted to the museum front door to ensure we were safely out as the national museum had closed as it was past 5pm. Really an amazing experience, where we were really well looked after. A must if you have a train enthusiast partner and have a sweet tooth!More

My husband treated me to afternoon tea here on 30 may 2021. We had seen the carriage on a previous visit to York Railway Museum before the pandemic. Unfortunately it was nearly two years before we could visit. The carriage was well socially distanced and...beautifully laid out. We were so well looked after by the young man on duty that day who's name sadly we neglected to get when we left. Nothing was too much trouble for him, I don't drink tea and the coffee had to be ordered for me but he was unfazed and further cups were brought without fuss or complaint. the food was lovely and the wonderful service made it a lovely afternoon . We were not rushed or hurried out and felt safe and comfortable. We will be backMore

My Daughter treated me for afternoon tea, which was a late birthday treat, from last year. The food was delicious and Ben looked after us very well indeed. I am Coeliac, it is not easy finding a place that can serve afternoon tea’s for people...with this condition. Would definitely recommend. Thank you.More

Visited today and had a wonderful experience. Covid measures adhered to. The food was tasty, and very filling. The gentleman serving/hosting was polite, efficient and on the ball. A thoroughly pleasant experience.

My husband took me to the Countess of York for my birthday, just before the lockdown. We had the carriage all to ourselves which made it all the more romantic and special. The young man who served use was brilliant, he was so welcoming and...helpful, explaining what each item for the afternoon tea was and although we were the only diners there, he didn't pester us, he checked we were ok every now and then, but not too much. It is the 3rd time I have been to the Countess of York and will definitely be going back again, I could not recommend it enough, it is such a lovely setting within the grounds of the railway museum.More

We have had some fantastic afternoon tea experiences around the country but this one is up there as one of the best! Location at the National Rail Museum gives it a truly unique setting and just enhances the overall experience! The afternoon tea menu is...one of the best I have seen and the service and food quality were exceptional! Very competitive prices and truly value for money! We will return and thank you to the impressive staff! 👍More

My daughter and myself brought my mum here for afternoon tea for early Mother's Day treat and we were so impressed. Surroundings beautiful, food gorgeous and service outstanding. Having pre requested veggie afternoon teas we were delighted that this had been noted. Unlimited teas and...extra sandwiches complemented a 4 course aft tea, and the children's afternoon tea was just as superb. The afternoon ended with free macaroons gift wrapped, and we fully intend to return in the future. We must make particular mention of Sophie who was friendly, professional and looked after us so well. It was worth every penny. Thankyou so much.More
