Great location and the staff try to be friendly. BUT not too each other. They were not communicating well. Much gesticulation and chaos - very Fawlty Towers. My steak Vesuvius, was dormant. No chillis whatsoever. When I mentioned this, they brought out a chilli salsa....But, as I pointed out, if a dish is advertised as having chillis in it, then they really should be in it. In all, a grim dining experience. Almost empty, 7.30pm, Friday of racenight should have warned us off.More

We visited the Olive Tree twice. The first time we were surprised how busy when we arrived at 6pm. The difficult part was choosing what to eat. My wife and our friend chose a chicken option and I had a good ribeye steak. Because we...enjoyed our meals the first visit we returned later in the week, sadly it was a disappointing visit. My wife and I chose (different) lamb options, both were extremely tough. I sent mine back and received a steak replacement which was OK. Excellent central location with fantastic views of Clifford’s Tower. We walked in on a Saturday afternoon during a visit to the area. Very tasty food, but like a previous review I have to mention the service! We really was welcomed like old friends! Special mention...to Pina and the young gentleman working with her last week. It was 5 out of 5 for the food but customer service was only 3 out of 5. After our main meal we were not offered desserts or coffee or even another drink. Greeted like long lost friends. An extensive menu. Excellent Pasta. Close enough to the centre and if you have the right table good views of the Wall!

Just returned from a 4 night stay in York and we booked a table here for dinner on the 2nd night of our stay. Lovely staff on arrival, quickly seated by the window. A really good choice of options on the menu- both courses we...ordered were outstanding- very fresh, served hot and extremely tasty. We dined at 7.30pm and it was only us and 1 other table in here so the atmosphere was a little lacking but apart from this everything was fantastic. Would definitely return.More

Simply excellent. Family dinner, with grown up children, quite different tastes. Food is sublime, service is attentive but not too fussy. Highly recommend.
