An old English pub that used to be the meeting headquarters for the Inklings - the group Tolkien & C.S. Lewis were a part of. You walk into the curved hallways and alcoves with quotes written on the walls and imagine the amazing discussions that...More

Having visited the Eagle & Child a year ago for drinks, my family and I promised ourselves a return visit for a meal which happened earlier today. A fairly basic but nonetheless varied menu with prices not as expensive as some other Oxford venues. However,...More

Just a typical literature fan who enjoys beer. So how could I pass up the chance to visit!?! Great history of being the Tuesday morning location for beer and talk with C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien and friends and this is nicely documented here. Plenty...More

My 10-year-old son and I are big fans of Tolkien and Lewis and we have been dreaming of being able to go where the Inklings met. The front of the pub looks like it likely did when those two gentlemen and their fellow intellectuals met....More

This olde worlde pub had a good selection of beers. I cannot comment on the food but the beers were tops. It has its connections with Lewis and Tolkien. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, well worth a visit.

I've been here a couple times and each time has been excellent. Aside from the amazing nerdiness of the place- they actually have really amazing food, cider, beer and mulled wine! I've sat in the back and the front. I just pretending I'm conversing with...More

Service was very fast. I had a club sandwich with chips which was good. I would have rather had one of the pies listed on the board but we were pressed for time. The CS Lewis corner was interesting.
