We stopped in Cheddar to break up a long drive and are so pleased we found this place. Expecting just a snack, we ended up with a roast dinner, toasties and a beautiful apple crumble. The service was wonderful, the ladies in their were very quick and friendly. Would highly recommend this little gem of a cafe. Would definitely big up the fruit crumble - it was apple the day we visited - for £4 it was a lovely addition to our meal.

Visited for breakfast. For the price of the breakfast I would have expected coffee to be included or possibly toast on the side (based on other breakfasts we've had in the area). Having said that, we were sufficiently full so didn't actually need any more food. The menu had some good options and from what I could see, the cakes and scones looked very good.
Nice setting and Covid safe with plenty of outdoor seating too.

We came across this lovely little place on a day trip to Cheddar as you do - its busy and popular but there's a reason for that - because the food and service are so good and excellent value for money. Normally I would have gone for one of their roasts but we were still full from the carvery we had eaten the day before so went for a jacket potato instead, which you can't really go wrong with. They were large and delicious with the usual array of fillings.

Unfortunately the most dreadful and antagonising reception on a last-ditched honeymoon.
With Corona measures in place and having cancelled my overseas honeymoon, I went for an inland excursion. After landing in Cheddar, we found most restaurants closed due to Covid, so we stopped by this small place, squeezed behind the carpark.Â
We entered, wearing our masks and then sanitised. Customers were sitting side by side but we nonetheless waited. The female waiter walked passed, giving us a condescending glance and ignored our clear interest in being seated.
After waiting too long we cautiously walked in keeping distance and were very rudely spoken to by the male waiter. In an eerily patronising way, he snarled that 'this is a sit down service so just sit down.'
Presuming this ice-cream parlour looking 'restaurant' was reserving the basics of social distancing, so I asked if we could sit on a particular table. Instead, he told us to go to another room (away from everyone else), and to sit in an outlying, four walled corner. We headed for another table, still all alone in the other room but then the woman angrily grumbled that we need to 'sit in *that* corner'!
I couldn't understand why they were so angry and wanted us so secluded and 'out of the way'. We calmly walked out because it was not worth being spoken to so rudely and humiliated even though I was fuming inside and drove home without a meal.
Rarely have I come across such low customer service standards in the UK, let alone in a small town that relies on tourism, during a global pandemic. Seeing this is a public platform, I'm sure these arrogant staff members will now express their 'sincerest' apologies. But I'm not after your pretention, but an introspective look at your poor customer service. I would not recommend this place when visiting Cheddar.

We're very sorry to hear your honeymoon didn't go as planned, this must've been very disappointing for you.
With reference to your cafe visit, regardless of your not wanting our 'pretentions' in a reply I do think it's important to say that we follow Covid regulations thoroughly, and the only customers sitting ''side by side'' would be those on the same table, or if a customer moved a table. We only have one third of our usual tables inside to allow for social distancing measures, and each table is carefully positioned. I therefore do not understand your comment saying we have ''reserved the basics of social distancing''.
I'm also sorry if it wasn't clear that you could take your own seat at any free table. I think you may have misread the staff's busyness - and therefore natural disregard for you - as something personal. You were expecting a full greet & seat procedure... we were expecting you to come on in, find yourself a seat and make yourselves comfy until we get to you. I can only apologise for this confusion. It's a system which works just fine, but for some reason, not so well on this occasion.
As you can see on so many of our reviews we have a happy, longstanding & friendly team and this is a genuine thread through them. If this ever seems not to be the case for a flicker of time it is due to being inundated with tasks, and to being human. Contrary to your insinuation, we rate customer service as extremely important, and I am genuinely sorry - with no pretention - if this was not your experience at your brief visit to our cafe. Or our ''ice-cream parlour looking 'restaurant' squeezed behind a car park''
I think there were some unfortunate misunderstandings here, and not least some snide and skewed misappraisals about our very hard working team.

On a visit today to Cheddar we decided to have a full English breakfast outside at this venue.
We paid £8 for a breakfast in a polystyrene carton consisting of half a slice of fried bread, one rasher of bacon, one sausage, one egg, spoonful of beans, approx three chunks of mushroom and a sliced fried potato, (which was still hard in the middle) all finished with a set of wooden cutlery to try and eat it with, unfortunately the cutlery was not up to the job and after three replacements ended up changing for proper metal cutlery.
All in all not a good experience, wouldn’t bother going there again very disappointed.

Hi there, we're so sorry to hear you had a disappointing visit. Please can we assure you that the compostable takeaway containers (not polystyrene) and wooden knives & forks for outside tables have been temporary during Covid - to reduce handling by staff - as our system has been for customers to dispose of their used items after use. From this week we have swapped back to our usual crockery & metal cutlery for meals outside.
We're disappointed at your misleading slant on the portion sizes however. It's fair to say that even the biggest of eaters find our breakfasts satisfying, size-wise and for the seven varied items that they consist of. We're always open to making changes as a result of feedback echoed by more than one, but we've never been an eatery to skimp on portions. Maybe it was the presentation in the takeaway containers, for which we're very sorry you didn't get on with.
Please do try us again as we move back to pre-Covid service, as we're sure you'll enjoy our food and visit.

Myself, my partner and my daughter popped in for lunch before heading home from our holiday. I ordered the ploughmans: gorgeous bread, cheese was amazing, served with pickle, pickled onions, coleslaw which was lovely and creamy, and a salad which looked everso fresh. My partner ordered the steak pie: he loved it! Tender meat and veg and homemade pastry, and the chips were nice and crisp. My daughter had the kids sausage and chips: well shes not usually a fan of sausages but she ate them both, and she said the chips were the best ever! I also treated myself to a slice of carrot cake, my favourite cake in the world so I am quite an expert, and I can honestly say it's one of the nicest carrot cakes I have ever eaten. If I ever come back to cheddar I know were I will be having my lunch!

Edelweiss is the most amazing place to visit! We totally love it there and we are quite addicted to their yummy food. They are now doing take aways because of lockdown & They do the best fry ups & Dan is always very friendly & attentive to detail and remembers our orders now :-) The roast dinners taste just like a home cooked roast and the portions are really generous. They are more than happy to cater for Gluten, dairy free and vegan options. Can't recommend them more highly :-)

Visited today with my family, we all really enjoyed the food. I ordered the jacket pot with brie & cranberry, my husband and father had the topside beef and my soon had the chicken nuggets (which I also tried and were fantastic). After a brilliant lunch we decided to go on and order desserts, we had fruit crumbles and syrup sponge pudding, again we thoroughly enjoyed.

I chose this because it was close to a sensibly priced car park! The menu was good and varied...portions looked good and there were already reserved tables and happy customers. Not a large cafe so must be heaving in the tourist season! As a lover of cream teas I'll eat them whenever and wherever, and this venue didn't disappoint. I was asked if I'd like even more jam and cream, and the teapot was a generous size. Attentive and pleasant staff - I'm not a fan of warm scones though.

This cafe is in a good location in the middle of Cheddar, close to a stream and bridge which made for a nice outlook while we were eating. .
We chose to eat outside which meant we had to order at the hatch at the side of the restaurant and unfortunately there was a very long wait to be served, maybe 15 minutes standing there. Once I had ordered though the food did arrive very quickly and it was very tasty.

I did visit here based on the good reviews I had read. However, I was very disappointed by what I was offered & the service.
I was visiting the area on a trip to cheddar gorge & popped in here to grab a quick fulfilling breakfast before heading off for a day of adventure.
I was one of the first into the restaurant and I greeted the waitress on shift but was not greeted with a particularly warm welcome.
I ordered a vegetarian breakfast which was overpriced and greasy.
Being the only place open for breakfast at that time, there is an opportunity to really own the space with no competition at that time, but I was left regretting my decision with x2 1/3rds of a pepper fried in oil, potatoes fried in oil, sausages, egg and mushrooms which I’m sure could (and probably were) all fried in one pan. I couldn’t finish it all because of the amount of grease - I can’t say that I have experienced this, however I feel the feel, taste and presentation of the food was what I would expect if I was a trucker passing a rest stop and the food was more for convenience than passion for food.
I had a glass of orange juice and an oat milk latte which was pleasant and tasted fresher than the rest of the breakfast.
The toilet is a little strange too, being a male / female & baby changing - which I can understand & have no issue with. However, it was not well kept or finished and looked again like something you would find on a rest stop in America on a longer route / highway where there is no competition and through necessity would be chosen to attend.
It’s a shame, I would love to commend this place, but the only thing I can say is the coffee was nice & the cakes looked tasty. But other than that, cheap food prepared with little care / quality of presentation and very expensive for what you get.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend if you are looking for nice food, there are plenty of other places that open an hour later (which are worth it when combined with the quality of the food vs convenience).

Just had amazing fish and chip take away. The fish was the best we’ve had in a very long time-crispy and huge! The homemade tartar sauce was light and delicious. Thank goodness for some yumminess in lockdown!

What a charming family run restaurant. Staff are so helpful and the food is so well done and such good value. I can’t believe the biggest bacon sandwich I’ve ever had was only £5.50! Definitely the place for lunch if visiting Cheddar Gorge.

We visited Cheddar Gorge on our way to Cornwall and popped into Edelweiss for breakfast. What a gorgeous cosy little cafe! We both had full English breakfasts. Everything on the plate was top notch. Bacon lovely and thick. Sausages scrumptious. Loved the little fried potatoes (a nice change from hash browns) and fried bread. We also had coffee and tea which was piping hot and delicious.
All the staff were lovely and friendly too!
We’ll definitely be back!

We came across this place whilst visiting Cheddar. My partner and I had roast beef and roast turkey dinner respectively. It was amazing, perfectly cooked, piping hot with plenty of vegetables. I had the small turkey which was perfect for people with a smaller appetite. The regular size was great for those with a healthy appetite. The food was great value for money.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
Will definitely be going back again
