We arrived for Sunday lunch at 12:25, to find the room quiet with only another three tables occupied, I truly thought we’d made a mistake and that Marcos was not as popular as we had thought! Luckily, an hour later it was buzzing, virtually every...table full, with Sunday lunchers and folks having afternoon tea a bit early! We booked a window table at at an additional cost, which I think was worthwhile. We chose the two course Sunday lunch which did not disappoint, our guests all chose different meats all of which looked very good and generous portions too. The Yorkshire puds were huge, the cauli cheese very nice too. Our waitress was polite and professional but it was very difficult to get service for drinks. We were also amazed that the restaurant does not stock Bacardi which I would have thought is a mainstream popular spirit. Drinks are expensive here in my opinion, but they always have been, maybe Havana 3 year old rum makes for a more exclusive drink, who knows, and £12.50 for an Aperol spritz is really taking the Micky, the small wine glass was mostly filled with ice! Another observation was that when ordering the cheese as a 'dessert' whilst the cuts of blue cheese again were fairly generous, six tiny very hard biscuits were insufficient, I ended up eating my second wedge of cheese like a slice of cake, no biscuits to eat it with. There is not a discretionary service charge, 10% is automatically added to the bill. This all said, we did enjoy our lunch, we finished the occasion by sitting on the terrace, which is under cover but open to the fresh air on one side, comfortable sofas and heaters are available.More

Came here for a work dinner last week in the private room. Was really great, food was a little slow to come out but overall everything was lovely. Our waiter was called Olgario and he was amazing! Really attentive, polite and helpful.

Visited the bar at Marco Pierre Whites restaurant, top of the Cube building on a Saturday afternoon, because we were at the Mailbox shopping.Lovely atmosphere here, great background music, views, great service and spacious comfy seating. Live music was on from about 6,30, got even...better! In fact enjoyed it so much tried to get a table at the restaurant but obviously it was fully booked. Would definitely recommend and will return.More

Prior to arriving we checked the dress code which stated smart on the webite however this clearly was not the case as there were individuals who arrived in ripped jeans and tracksuits! We arrived an hour early for our table which was no issue as...we sat by the bar and had a drink whilist we waited. Then when it was time we were seated quite promptly. The proximity of tables were inches apart it was almost like you were dining with one another but that wasn't too nuch of an issue for us. When we were seated it took quite some time for us to be served but I'll give the waitress some credit for apologising. She took our food and drinks order to which we waited not too long however the music was so loud she didn't take our full drinks order so only 1/2 arrived after our starters came. We didn't know what to expect in terms of starter but what arrived were deep fried sprats, a small pot of tartare sauce and a lemon wrapped in a cloth. I've seen better presented starters at my local restaurant!! Our mains came quite efficiently after we had finished our starters. We couldn't complain about how our steaks were cooked as it was to our preference but it was so bland and there was no salt and pepper on the table. The steak was accompanied by a pot of chips which were nice and hot, a small vine of grilled tomatoes and a very small ramekin of sauce. I'd expect some kind of seasoning in the steak at minimum and steak knives which didn't arrive. We ordered onion rings on the side which never came, again I'm not surprised as the music was loud and quite strange for the kind of restaurant we were in as it was all modern pop. As we came with a voucher choice of food was quite limited anyway however there was no choice of steak or size. My partner who's a butcher could easily identify mine as sirloin and couldn't guess his which wasn't too much of an issue but a choice would've been nice. We waited a good 10 minutes before our plates were cleared to which our desserts arrived first with no cutlery to go with it which then led the our plates being cleared. When I took a bite into the brownie I pulled such a face my partner instantly knew what was wrong, the sauce tasted as if it has dishwasher soap in it and as seen in the picture when they arrived it was definitely not given any thought on presentation. The whole experience felt rushed as not once were we asked if we were ready for our next meal or asked how the meal was until the very end when we received our bill. Had my partner not covered the bill and received it initially I would've asked for the service charge to be taken off. When looking around the restaurant most faces were the same..unhappy and disgruntled. The restaurant does not live up to the name and we most certainly won't be retuning or recommending. When we were asked how everything was at the end I replied with it was alright to which the lady didn't seem pleased to hear and didn't care for feedback. Save your money and time don't come here for a fine dining experience you genuinely are better off at your local restaurant at least that way you won't leave unhappy.More

I have never been so appauled by the service at a restaurant, I booked the restaurant for my 26th Birthday as a present to myself; firstly our table was not ready on arrival (which usually would not bother me), we were then looked up and...down as we walked to the table and the lady proceeded to ask "have you got a gift card or any vouchers" which I was slightly offended by. We were also not told the chicken was not available until we asked for the chicken,I was also shocked to see every single table was offered bottle of water and we never received any. The entire meal felt rushed and as if we were not as important as the other guests as we looked younger. I honestly thought it would be a lovely birthday to myself and I was just not impressed, the only positive I took from the meal was the fillet steak was beautiful.More

My partner and I decided to head to Marco’s to celebrate a special occasion after receiving great news. It was a very impromptu visit as we booked on the afternoon for a table in the evening. It’s been a while since we had both been...here but the views are as breathtaking as ever. Unfortunately, the arrival and service thereafter was not. We were greeted by a host halfway down into the restaurant, passing the bar area where not one member of staff said hello, almost an eye roll as to why we were here on a Monday night. The restaurant host was polite and welcoming but unfortunately our reservation couldn’t be found on the sheet, despite trying to make the reservation on the phone earlier, after 4 failed attempts. It was a bit disappointing as I’d made note that we were celebrating a special occasion and requested a table seat. The host allowed us to go in but it was evident we were treated as a walk in. There were a few tables available in the window but we were plonked in the middle of the restaurant backed to another table of 2 (who may aswell have joined our table, it was that close!) About 2 minutes into sitting down, our waiter came over, welcomed us and immediately asked us if we’re ready to order. Obviously not, I’d just about finished taking my coat off. We asked for a few minutes to decide what we’d like. A blunt reply of ‘ok’. One of the reasons we decided to dine here was because we had an email promoting a January set course menu - 2 course £22.50 3 courses £28. As we were only presented with our a la carte menus, we asked our server if the set menu was available. He didn’t have a clue what we’re talking about and dragged the host over for her to tell us that the menu is only available 12-5pm and apologised for the inconvenience. Nowhere on the email stated it was lunch only but not a problem, as this menu reflected a few of the dishes we’d seen on the set menu so we had what we planned. However, as the restaurant was quiet, you’d assume they’d encourage more covers with offers on a Monday night in January. Our order was taken for drinks and food. We were aware of a cocktail offer on specific cocktails but we had to ask the waiter which ones are included, rather than him stating which ones. Everything seemed like an effort for this person, and we definitely felt like we were inconveniencing him by being there! Food order was taken, my partner had a steak and I opted for the Mac n Cheese, the waiter ummed whilst saying we don’t have that I don’t think but let me check. I said I can pick an alternative so I went for fish and chips. He cleared our water glasses away (why?!) and starter cutlery and came back with a steak knife for my partner and proceeded to tell me, ‘no Mac and cheese, so you can have fish and chips’. The food arrived quickly. The chips on both plates looked dead. I remember the chips were always fluffy and thick and cooked to perfection, these looked like oven chips, deep fried. I’d be shocked if they weren’t. No sauces offered and not even a enjoy your meals. My partners steak was good but my fish and chips were actually horrendous. For £20 you expect the works. The fish was scaley, you could see it through the soggy, tasteless batter. It was presented on branded tissue paper which got stuck to the soggy fish so I was literally eating words. You can’t go round with fish and chips but somehow it’s possible at Marcos. There was a midway courtesy check from the server so we were able to ask for condiments. My partner enjoyed his food which is all that matters but yes, ultimately a really lovely evening planned resulting in disappointment and a bit of frustration. If the 10% service charge was discretionary, I’d be asking for it to be removed as it certainly was not deserved. This place needs to fix up, the views are the only thing carrying it. I’m really not one for reviews but my experience last night was appalling and if I can save anyone some money by not spending it here, I’ll be happy with that.More

Booked a meal here for my anniversary. Arrived at the time of the reservation and waited perhaps 5 minutes in a queue to then be seated for another 10 whilst we wait for our table and by seated i mean asked to wait in a...small area next to the queue with one seat (I sat on the end of another couple's table), felt a little like sitting outside the headteachers office with everyone looking at you as they queue. We were then shown to our table and waited around 10-15 minutes to be asked if we would like any drinks or starters at which point we made our complete order but we didn't mind too much as we were enjoying the view and our date. (The menu was surpringly small, from memory I think there was about 6 steak choices including sizes....at a steakhouse) One of our starters came after roughly 10 minutes with the other arriving a couple minutes later, wouldve expected them together but again, at this point we're still just enjoying the view and conversing. Our waitress had dropped both sets of napkins seperately when serving our starters so we once we had finished our ribs and bread we were left awkwardly trying to pick our fingers whilst also not looking like tramps (ordinarily you'd ask a waiter but they were extremely hard to get hold of without loudly saying Excuse me! As they pass). Our plates were left on our table for quite a while but on collection I ordered a coke (relevant for later) So, this is where the experience really starts to go from unsatisfactory to appalling, We waited at least 50 minutes for our mains and that's giving the benefit of the doubt. By this time we were both beyond hungry, we had seen ever sight there was to see (council flats), discussed about all we could and we just ready to dimolish a steak! Mains arrive and it was just poor, no steak knives, the onion rings were cold on the insides, the fries were okay, nothing different to Tgi's but the major disappointment comes with the steaks. Not only was there barely any choice of steaks, there was no option of sizes for specific steaks (like 08oz/10oz) so if you're really hungry you're left deciding between a better cut but smaller or a worse cut but slightly bigger. I got a 10oz ribeye, the cut itself was terible, atleast 04oz was fat minimum, my partner ordered a sirloin which surpringly was also extremely fatty and tough (she ordered medium and received a well done). the seasoning on both was minimal if any! The sauce pots (which they charge £3-4 for!) Were about the size of a shot glass so we ended up seasoning our steak with table salt &peper...at a fine dining steakhouse.. This sounds like exaggeration I know but honestly, Sainsbury's steak (not even their premium line) are much finer cuts of steak than here by far, and I would say our own seasoning is much better but I'm guessing they just skipped on seasoning all together due to busyness. When we finally got the attention of a waitress we asked to have the onion rings removed as we had no intention of eating them ( we ate 1 of 5) but the waitress said she'd have to ask a manager in a quite a rude manner too. By this time we had pretty much sone with our steaks as they were mostly fat or cuts not worth eating. With us now being finished and completely disatisfied we decide to just get our bill and leave (we did want a dessert but I didn't bring my sleeping bag with me so we opted to get one on the way home) As we were seated along the window our backs are to the restaurant so I had to quite obviously turn away from my table and face toward the restaurant in hopes of getting someone's attention. Were waiting, waiting & waiting some more, just observing the atmosphere and it turns out we were not the only ones faced with frustration. Multiple tables around us all with the same glare at esitress!' for attention, conversations of dissatisfaction heard from multiple tables, multiple table pulling waitress's to complain, one table were even taping their watches to the staff whilst complaining, normally you would say that's exceptionally rude but in this instance it was well more than justified. I notice a massive poster of MPW in the dining area, the only poster of him or of that size infact which had "from the chef who made Gordan Ramsey" (or something very similar) and it just made me laugh literally because I could just imagine Gordan going into an angry blaze if he were to either try that food let alone the dining experience. More waiting, frustration growing, tables around me overheard asking for refunds, an extremely terrible atmosphere from staff and diners, I had enough and was prepared to just walk out of the restaurant had I have not wanted to spare my partner potential embarrassment. I had to walk across the restaurant and ask someone at the bar to get my bill for me as I was certain my waitress finsihed her shift as she was nowhere to be seen. The bill comes and we notice were charged for the onion rings which were sent back and an extra coke which we still hadn't received and almost like it was comedically timed turns up at that moment after what, over an hour?! I then noticed an automatic service charge for great service...are you having a laugh?? For the first time in my entire life I asked for that to be removed. I apologised for asking for it to be removed as i felt bad about it but on the other hand if you know the Service you're providing is beyond poor surely you would just take it off yourself. We get a revised bill and as I'm about to pay my partner points out they hadn't added the 50% deal they were currently doing which had to again be changed and revised. We paid and left the most disgusted weve ever been with a dining experience and I don't mean in relat it's high expectation, I mean at all, ever. Even on the way out were overhearing people complaining, in the lift down we had another couple complaining, it just absolutely killed our night. If I had to guess I'd say the 50% offer attracted more than expected and they were short staffed due to covid. If this is the case the manager should've turned away any without a reservstion, informed us when we arrive of the wait times and potentially even cancel bookings. The food for what you pay for is dreadful, genuinely, supermarket home cooked steak is of a better cut and can actually be seasoned ( another reason why I suspect they were short staffed), miller and carter are by far better with a better range of offering, value for money, dining experience amd service. The experience was beyond poor, it was disgraceful, you had staff serving steak with no steak knives, ribs with no napkins, 1 hour waits for a single drink, 1 hour waits for a main, staff literally speed walk/jogging around the restaurant as they were that busy, overcharged bills &much more. Id imagine if you pay the premium price to dine here it's for either the view, the quality of MPW food or the dining experience but I cannot see why anyone would ever return when All three are far better and cheaper in many other places.More

Unfortunately myself & my partner had a disappointing experience which has led to this review which is something I never do but hope the manager address’ the situation of ours, and many other diners experience that we seen during our meal yesterday evening. We arrived...at 7:30pm, we were told that a table was being laid for us and to wait 15 minutes, after 30 minutes I chased the host up & she said the table was given to someone else that came in after us, I challenged why and all of a sudden we were seated. We got our mains at 9:30pm (we ordered at 8:30pm & we’re advised there would be a wait but didn’t expect 1 hour), chunky chips & onion rings had sold out, and our waitress didn’t recommend the salad that I requested. Another waitress was seen crying whilst running around the restaurant. We had to ask for another drink & request desserts (at 10:20pm). Other diners near us looked frustrated at the wait & also waiting for their bill. We were advised that there was a wedding on too which caused the wait, and that’s fair enough however to see that staff were upset was really sad. I would have been happier to have been turned away if the host had said that they were too busy for the demand that evening, as I didn’t expect it the evenings experience to be as bad as it looked when we arrived. The food was absolutely lovely and I would love to try another restaurant of Marco Pierre’s, purely because of the food. Maybe this was a one off situation & I am really sorry to write this review but hope that my comments from our experience is taken on and improves the organisation of staff, bookings & timescales for future diners. Photos of food & table added as these really were lovely!More

I booked for 4pm afternoon tea, on arrival our booking was moved to 25 minutes later as the table was not ready. But that was fine as we went to the bar instead and the views and atmosphere was good. Here comes the disappointing part,...we sat down and waited for nearly 25 minutes for someone to come serve us. Our order was taken but out comes the afternoon tea stand but no tea. We could not find any servers too as everyone was extremely busy, which left us feeling neglected. After 10 minutes or so we managed to get hold of someone who bought us our missing tea. Being we booked for afternoon tea and the tea was missing as well as not having options of different teas, wasn’t great. Also did not have any teaspoons so again another 5 minutes of waiting to track a server down. The cakes were very mediocre and tasted store bought, nothing amazing. We also ordered two starters as we waited so long and at this pointed wanted some more food with our afternoon tea. Well out of the two starters we ordered, one was missing and no one came to ask us if we needed anything at any time. We waited 15 minutes for the bill, which was incorrect as the second starter didn’t arrive so we mentioned this, no apologies over that just handed another bill then another 15 minutes waiting for a card machine. Again we had to ask someone. At this point my husband and I became restless and just wanted to get out of here asap. Will definitely not be returning for food as the price does not justify the experience or the food quality. Ruined what was meant to be a lovely experience for my husbands birthday who was very excited to go here. Save your money and find something better.More

It is with great disappointment that I am finding myself placing a review here this evening. I have no qualifications in fine dining and so I would imagine my opinion may not sway anyone planning a visit. I only have a personal opinion, based on...my one visit and comparing it to many other places I have visited in my five-ish decades on this planet. If you are attending in any case, I wish you good luck and good fortune and I really do hope you enjoy your visit. I only wish we had experienced even part of what many reviews have describe as 'amazing' or 'spectacular'. My wife and I were looking forward to a few hours out together as this rarely happens. When we arrived we asked to sit in a window seat as we had been told the views were amazing. We were sat overlooking the outskirts of Birmingham and by that I mean 3 storey blocks of flats with Tower blocks nearby. If that is what you clarify as an amazing view, you'll be thrilled. Drink order bottle of chardonnay wine ordered...waitress came over after 5 minutes to say they did not have that wine, sorry. Second different bottle of Chardonnay ...waitress returned, they don't have that one either. They did have the third one though. Food order...starter beetroot and goats cheese and an onion soup. My wife enjoyed her beetroot and goats cheese. My onion soup was also quite nice, although it was given to me in a bowl with dried soup down the sides and no spoon to eat with. After waiting to see if one was to be brought, it wasn't so we called someone over. Mains...both ordered steak with king prawns that came with '3-times-cooked' chips, steaks medium cooked. When they arrived we both cut in to the meat and took a mouthful. On my part, the meat had no flavour and was very grissly, so much so that I simply swallowed it as I didn't want to make a fuss and ruin the outing. Unbeknown to me, my wife was experiencing the same issue. Second cut...same but I simply couldn't eat it. Chewing it was bad enough. I had already tried to cover it with seasoning but it made no difference. The blood in the steak was oozing out at this point and my wife pointed out to me that that was not a medium cooked steak. I was more interested in tasting something. The steak was clearly a bad cut. The fat was obvious on the outsides of the steak as it appeared to have been seared by the 'chef'and within the meat itself. Trying the chips was also a disappointment. Again, no flavour at all, bland and the insides were hard. If this is what cooking chips 3 times does, you can keep them. Just imagine the flavour of warm fluff...ie none. The sauce or pot of dip it came with, also tasted of nothing at all. Just a yellow substance. So, two cuts of steak and two chips later, I noticed my wife's expression as she struggled to chew the meat. It is very rare that my wife complains about food. She asked is your steak fatty too?... mmm I replied. So, she then calls over the waitress and complains and the Manager comes over. He asks what the problem is and I explain...no flavour, under cooked, bloody steak which also had no flavour, chips terrible etc. With an apology, the meals are taken away and my wife ordered a roast dinner instead. I declined another meal. I did try to stay positive but to serve food this way to customers at the prices they're asking felt like we were being mocked. My wife's dinner came but with only one potatoe, two slices of beef, a pig in blanket and spinach on the plate. It did state, " with all the trimmings". Thinking that this was what constitutes as a la carte's version of it, she finished her 'meal'. As she did so, I looked over to two other tables who had ordered the same. They'd been given a wooden platter that clearly contained three lots of vegetables, so we then asked if that was a side order. The waitress explained that that is served with the roast dinner...not my wife's though, I pointed out... another apology. So, after a poor main and a reluctant complaint, the replacement meal was incomplete... Dessert...my wife enjoyed her cheesecake. The apple and almond crumble...microwaved fruit ( crazily hot apple slices) with uncooked , cold crumble mix topper...which granted was quite large but had a teaspoon sized scoop of ice cream in the centre. The topping was dryer and looser than moondust. I used the ice cream to soften the experience of eating biscuits crumbs with volcanic- hot apple but there was just enough ice cream for three small scoops from the centre. Then naturally in these circumstances you see other things like the staff's scruffy appearances, the unironed white shirts of staff, the unshaven manager...who was gracious enough to apologise and offer a discount on our next visit...I told him I would not be re attending thank you very much. We received the bill, which included 10 percent surcharge for the great service, which we also had to object to. We gave the waitress the cash equivalent personally as she was great, patient and a credit to this shower of a restaurant. The whole bill would have been around 160 pounds for steak and chips with a bit of Jar'd beetroot and goats cheese...unless I am told the beetroot is personally hand reared by them..which I doubt. The wine we had was 38.99...but can be bought at many supermarkets for 6.99. I really do understand the term fine dining...I have been to some great restaurants, had great food, in nice environments... This comes second in the worst restaurant experiences I have had. Now, I feel cleansed and renewed. I now will not have my conscience to worry about as I have said all I can. If you still go, I pray that your experience is as wonderful as the hype and website portrays, particularly if someone has paid for you and wants you to enjoy it too. We will now have to tell a white lie to my daughter who saved up to treat her parents. Thank you Marco Pierre...More
