There is always an excellent selection of hand-pulled beers and the food is consistently good. The interior is looking tired these days and could do with a refurbishment...perhaps brighten it up a bit, but if you're looking for a typical Wetherspoon's close to the shops...More
The food on the menu is fairly tasty and arrives pretty promptly. It can get really busy at lunchtimes, but the outside seating is a great place to head to with a view of the old council house. Staff are friendly.
I came for breakfast in May, and I found the Earl Mercia to have good and quick service as well as decent food. The only downside of this pub is that it's very dark on the inside.
