Apart from the sticky floor and the unpleasant smell everywhere in this pub, the service has been a total mess. A fish and chips dish with no fish at all (unbelievably a friend has been served just the external fried crust with no fish inside!),...More

having visited this establishment for lunch today I have to say I'm extremely disappointed, not so much with the poorly executed food but rather the dismissive way the foh staff dealt with the situation. My girlfriend ordered two starters to eat as a main, one...More

This has got to be one of the best pubs in Great Britain never mind Salisbury. It is a fantastic old building full of character. We called in one day during our stay just for a drink. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and...More

A very quaint and unpretentious bar in the middle of Salisbury with a classic old English olde worlde restaurant upstairs. Great laid back mix of jazz, Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong. Food delivers - excellent venison (obviously) that was robust and tasty. Slick and cheerful...More

Lovely food and great service. They even got us a birthday cake! This is one of the oldest pubs in salisbury and most popular with tourists. Traditional British country food.

Let’s start with the positives. A nice old pub full of character and history that is the essence of Old England, intimate and nice warm welcome too. I ordered the pork belly and after a short wait it was duly served up looking a bit...More

Enjoyed the feeling of eating in a very old British pub! Great character, very historic. We both had the grilled venison plate, and we both devoured it! We really enjoyed the lunch- no complaints. Just sorry we did not have time for sticky toffee pudding!

Description
One of the city's most historic pub, and listed on CAMRA's National Inventory as one of the most historic interiors in the UK, The Haunch is packed with history, reputedly haunted by the ghost of the cheating card player, whose mummified hand is displayed in the upper 'House of Lords' Bar, with the snug 'Horsebox' allegedly the meeting place of Churchill and Eisenhower whilst planning the D-Day landings! With a spacious first floor restaurant, and a recent ownership change, The Merchant's House dining room on the first floor (entrance through pub) features a contemporary British menu specializing in local ingredients which include our famous venison casserole, superb selection of local meats and fish. Complemented with a specialist whiskey list, fine wine list and local hand - pulled real ales, as well as very friendly service, The Haunch is a definite 'must see' on your visit to Salisbury!
