Dropped in here when travelling with Mrs M between Christchurch and Cardiff. This was an unplanned stop but I just had to have a decent bite to eat. We were more than please with the find. The place is quaint and although it looked a bit pubish (but very cosy) from the street the restaurant upstairs was very nice. The... More

This gem of antiquity offers excellent ales and whiskeys in a truly extraordinary and tiny format. The wee sitting room is wood-paneled and cozy with a warm fire. The dining options are upscale and lovely. This place has drawn us back each visit to Salisbury. Special.

We visited here on Sunday evening and were very pleased we did. Just entering through the front door was a treat - outside it tells you that the place is old and it more than lives up to the promise. Quirky, ancient, cosy and welcoming we were led 2 twisting staircases to a lovely restaurant where we then experienced a... More

Great old little pub. Believed to have been built to house the worker building the cathedral. Tiny little bar stocking a good range of drinks including 4 real ales. Small rooms with plenty of caracter and history. Make sure you see the hand in the alcove cut off a card player caught cheating. A good restaurant on the second floor.

Pre-arranged lunch with a friend, and we were so glad we chose the Haunch. Down stairs is at atmospheric tavern with nooks & crannies and a bit of history in every corner (ask about the hand in the wall). Upstairs the restaurant was surprisingly bright and airy. With a big log fire in the magnificent fireplace, it was warm and... More

Fascinating old pub. We stopped briefly for a drink Sunday afternoon. It was very busy with people eating. The barman was very friendly & told us a bit of the history of the pub.

Went for a drink with my wife, we really enjoyed it. It was a cold winter day and it was so nice to sit near the fireplace and enjoy a pint of good ale.

Built in 1320, this is old pub is one of our favorites in England. It has wood beamed ceilings, and a ladies box just inside the front door. Great bar and very friendly bartender. We had pork belly, venison sausages and a Sunday roast. All excellent choices. For dessert, we had lemon sorbet, sticky toffee pudding, and chocolate mousse. They... More

A fantastic old English public house oozing with charm and warmth with lovely snug open fired drinking areas and more old beams that you can shake a large stick at.Good selection of local ales and a fine restaurant to boot. What more can you ask for.....

Really lovely pub steeped in local history. Friendly staff and locals. What a nice pub! I mean who doesn't love sitting in front of a fireplace with a pint. Also it's bigger than you think so if you're put off because it looks busy, go in anyway and search through the other rooms, equally filled with character

One of the city's most historic pub, and listed on CAMRA's National Inventory as one of the most historic interiors in the UK, The Haunch is packed with history, reputedly haunted by the ghost of the cheating card player, whose mummified hand is displayed in the upper 'House of Lords' Bar, with the snug 'Horsebox' allegedly the meeting place of Churchill and Eisenhower whilst planning the D-Day landings! With a spacious first floor restaurant, and a recent ownership change, The Merchant's House dining room on the first floor (entrance through pub) features a contemporary British menu specializing in local ingredients which include our famous venison casserole, superb selection of local meats and fish. Complemented with a specialist whiskey list, fine wine list and local hand - pulled real ales, as well as very friendly service, The Haunch is a definite 'must see' on your visit to Salisbury!
