About
Built around 1480, The Thatched Tavern was originally a farmhouse with a croft (a small farm). There was also a Blacksmiths forge at the back of the building where the kitchen hatch is now, and a wood store at the end of the bar.During the reign of Queen Anne (1701) Cheapside and the surrounding area became recognised as a fashionable place to be seen. The Royal Races on Ascot Heath (as it was then known) also began, although a bit sporadicallyThe Thatched Tavern only became a pub, or tap house as it was known then, in about 1760; it was one of the three most popular drinking establishments in the hamlet of Cheapside. In the early 1900’s it became the main drinking centre in Cheapside, known

Gréât service and cracking food! Nat and the front of house crew always have a warm welcome. Chef Steve cooked some outstanding food, last night. The fish cakes were brilliant. Really enjoyed ourselves. This place never fails!

We booked a table of 7 for Sunday lunch. Firstly one of the starters was delivered incorrectly, but we accepted the mistake. The main courses were not good at all. The battered cod for the main course was so small it was insulting, with very...few chips and no peas. The roast potatoes on the other meals were inedible as they were overcooked and rock hard, the vegetables were completely undercooked (almost raw). The nut roast was bland and tasteless. We ordered coffees and hot chocolate for the end of the meal. They forgot the hot chocolate and when we mentioned it they brought the milk cold, so we weren't able to melt the chocolate. The quality of this restaurant has definitely gone down hill. For the very expensive price of the overall meal, it was not value for money at all, with all 7 of us saying we would not return.More

Watch your head, this old building must have a few stories to tell. Nice food and good service we sat out the back as it’s under cover and has heaters and little sheds to sit in. Nice service and food. Will be back

Parked on road outside before doing a 2 hour walk around The Great Park. Enjoyed a delicious, excellent value meal in the relaxed atmosphere of this characterful pub. Steak and venison cooked to perfection and desserts tasty. Staff were friendly, efficient and attentive as well...very welcoming to my friends dog.More

Absolutely fabulous Sunday lunch with family and friends. The service was excellent as always and the food was divine. The roast beef was cooked just the way we like it.

A beautiful place to catch up with friends! Recently visited for a friends wedding. Delightful interior with many optional areas to be seated, either close to the bar or for somewhere more private, even extending to seated areas outside. The staff were all very attentive...and our food was delicious. Will definitely return soon!More

I love this place, it's only round the corner from me and another one of my favourite pubs in the area. The staff are lovely, and the food is just delicious! It's the perfect combination of traditional warm homely pub atmosphere and good wine and...dining. I took my parents here and they were likewise impressed. Sometimes they source things like wood pigeon/pheasant from the Windsor Great Park which is pretty lovely for the local country experience.More

My friend treated me to a pre-birthday lunch. Laurence, Martina and Nicole were all so welcoming. Loved the pub and the setting. I ordered chicken, with fondant potato and savoy cabbage in a bourguignon sauce It was delicious. If I wasn't still so full, I...could eat it all over again right now. Took a peak into the garden and it was so well set out - especially for the unprecedented times we find ourselves in. Particularly liked the wooden cabins. As long as there's not horizontal rain, I'd like to check those out next time :-)More

How we love this gorgeous country pub. Steeped in history it was meant to be where John Brown used to stop off en route to Windsor Castle to see his Queen Victoria. With Gabriele at the helm the service is magnificent. Nicole and Martina thanks...so much for being so warm and welcoming. This pub embodies everything that a traditional pub with heart and soul and passion for its community should be! LOVE IT!More

From what I can remember there is a small amount of parking available on the forecourt and road at the front, plus parking at the rear with access through the beer garden.
