Nice place for a full Scottish breakfast. Staff were very friendly. Would have preferred the bacon a bit crispier and the haggis was a little bit cold but the potato cakes and the sausages were delicious. They do a nice pot of tea too :) £8.75ish for a big breakfast so not bad value at all.

Visited here for a full Scottish breakfast on our recent stay in Edinburgh, good old homemade meals and polite friendly staff. The breakfast was that good we returned in the evening for dinner which was also delicious, portions are great and the food is made fresh. Prices were very reasonable and worth every penny. We will return on our next... More

After researching the best places in Edinburgh to eat traditional Scottish fair, we came across The Royal McGregor. Do not mess about going to anywhere else if you are close to this place. The staff, drinks and food are amazing. Personal tip, Haggis stack and Whiskey sauce, with a pint if real ale. Market wasn't that impressive, this place was.... More

We were cold and tired after a Dec. 1 walking tour, and the restaurant looked intriguing. We were greeted warmly, and delighted that they offered a tasting of three local beers, two on cask, that added up to a pint. They were all good, and one great. The Cullen Skink – smoked fish chowder – was tasty and was almost... More

We were curious to try vegetarian haggis so we went in for dinner. It was amazing and the staff was very polite and friendly. Definitely would go there again!

We went here for a quick burger on a Thursday afternoon. The staff were excellent and very helpful at recommending places for us to check out and see. We had a delicious halloumi burger and some local lager - Innis and Gunn. Prices were very reasonable, and the location is handy to nip in off the Royal Mile for a... More

We took my father in law here for a birthday evening meal as his clan name is McGregor!! I saw mixed reviews on here but I needed to see for myself and we weren't disappointed. The menu is very good and they offer specials. Our meals were served promptly, the waiting staff were attentive and made us feel very welcome.... More

Stopped in for an early dinner. Got seated quickly. Service was friendly but a bit slow, we had to ask multiple times for our drinks and the bill. The onion rings were excellent, try them with their mustard it was splendid. The Highland Burger was messy but tasty and the Scotland Burger was loaded with flavor. Gave four stars based... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
