I came here, ordered a pint and sat down at a table in the restaurant. I was actively ignored for 20 minutes by the two servers. Literally, they served the tables behind and across from me but wouldn't look my way, offer me a menu, nothing. Was happy to leave and spend my money elsewhere.

This was our last night in Edinburgh, and we wanted another Scottish specialty other than Fish and Chips, although we had delicious orders of that throughout Scotland. The beef pie made with ale was perfect this evening at the Mitre, also called, Richardson's. It had a lovely, flavorful brown sauce, and the crust was flaky and crisp. It came with... More

Found this gem after a long walk round the centre looking for traditional food. We were not disappointed! The food is excellent quality (we had three courses!) The staff are so welcoming and truly make you feel at home despite how busy they are. We will definitely return here.

Food was very good and service (once seated) was excellent. There was only one waiter and one host/waiter, so they had a lot of people to take care of, but I thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality of our host/waiter.

Visited here with my partner. I had the macaroni which was lovely, a fair portion with some garlic bread. Would have been nice to have chips or salad included with it. Partner had the pie and he loved it. Place was very very busy however we were seated straight away. Would definitely return, usually head to the restaurant next door... More

Hello and thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed your visit. The macaroni is indeed very delicious, and next time if you would fancy a portion of chips or salad please ask a member of staff if they could swap the garlic bread for this and that will be no problem at all. We hope to see... More

I had grilled lamb chops, chicken and chorizo pie and steak sandwich and I also tried the chocolate brownie. Every meal was really lovely, arrived quick even when warned about... More

Droped into this bar while on a break in Edinburgh and was glad i did. A lovely pub that looks like it has been frozen in time it is like going into a pub in a different era. The staff are friendly and very helpful there is a good range of local beers and whiskeys well worth visiting.

My husband was warned the burgers were big and she was right. He couldn't finish it. The chips were some of the best I have tried for a long time. I enjoyed the fish. The staff were all lovely and really pleasant to talk too.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
