Very cute place. My friend and I had tea and apple cake. The cake had a bit of a soggy bottom, but was still quite nice. We chatted with the lady for a while and she was so lovely! It's like going to your grandma's house, with a sweet grandma included! She even gave my friend and I a little... More

Forsyth's is a fantastic, traditional tea spot right in the city centre run by a very lovely person! The tea and scones were delicious and the service was great...I felt like I was right at home after walking a lot on a very cold day. Can't wait to go back!

Small, inviting, place for lunch or a snack. Maybe dinner. Good food and service. Very interesting local-theme interior.

A heartwaming and exquisitely relaxing environment: we found Forsyth while looking for a tearoom and we stepped in without too much expectation. Well, we were definitely stunned by this place. The lady owning the place is just lovely, and enjoyed talking to us while preparing (freshly made) sandwiches and tea. The place isn't too big, but it felt like I... More

Lovely little tearoom in Chalmers Close, just off the Royal Mile. Lady proprietor very nice/helpful. We had a cake & tea stop and the home-made cakes ~ particularly the lemon drizzle cake (best I've ever tasted!) were excellent, real good quality! Will certainly call in again when we next visit the city. Tearoom itself is very quaint and nicely done... More

I've been there a few times when in Edinburgh. Absolutely LOVE going in & talking. Found out that a friend of Forsyth's works in a tea room in Cambria, CA near where I live and where I go often. PS the date wouldn't let me pick earlier dates also.

This tearoom, down a little lane opposite the Museum of Childhood on the Royal Mile, is an absolute delight. The lady running the tearoom said she had been there for 22 years. She told us that the room was 14th century. It was delightfully decorated in a very pretty old-fashioned style. The plates, cups etc were all old-fashioned not matching... More

I was looking for somewhere to rest my feet when I stumbled across this little tea room just off The Royal Mile. I sat and had my lunch with the owner and we had a good gnatter about all sorts of things. She was so lovely and great company! The food was nice as well but I'll be going back... More

We were searching for an independent place to have breakfast and spied the sign for Forsyth's tearoom down a small side alley. We walked in and were instantly transported into a world of chintz, doilies, tam o'shanter tea cosies and generally a feeling of being at your grandma's house. Then we spotted Grandma (aka the owner). She was sitting and... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
