This wee restaurant is a real gem of a place on Easter Road. The staff are attentive and enthusiastic about their menu. They gave some background info on the dishes' origins. I'd highly recommend this to all!

I had the spinach and ricotta Cannelloni, and I can’t recommend it more. It was freshly made and absolutely delicious. The chief is a culinary artist! The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, and the staff lovely. Will definitely come back.

'Al Dente' refers to a perfectly cooked pasta - appropriate as the chef here is an artist, from carbonara to spaghetti. Chunky sameness of globally branded pasta restaurant chains (no names need mentioning!) is displaced here by local subtle taste stimulating menu. Service is attentive,...More

We keep coming back - we've returned enough times that the people that run the restaurant recognise us, and it really adds to the cosy, welcoming atmosphere. Best lasagne in Edinburgh, IMO, although tonight I finally tried one of the specials - the rabbit medallion...More

The best, most authentic, unpretentious, friendly Italian restaurant in Edinburgh. Across the board the food is always delicate and delicious. Not just a meal but a relaxing, warming evening out where everyone is made to feel as if they belong. The passion of the chef...More

Unfortunately tonight the tables weren’t all occupied because this lovely little restaurant deserves a full house. Beetroot and Marscapone ravioli in half portions to start and dishes from the chalk board were a delight. Rabbit not on tonight, it got away this time. Italian chef...More

Description
Secreted away on one of the quieter stretches of Easter Road is a sparkling jewel of Italian dining – Al Dente is quite simply glorious. The walls are covered with pictures of Italian movie stars and picturesque vistas and these evocative images, along with the tiled floor and simple wooden tables, imbue Al Dente with the earthy simplicity of old Italy. But do not be fooled by this rustic interior or the attractively affordable prices; this restaurant offers the finest food and the friendliest service. A roast pepper overflows with fat grains of arborio rice, subtle but vibrant flavours elevating homely fare to five-star standards. A similar trick is played with immaculately presented mains such as porcini mushroom risotto and chicken breast stuffed with asparagus and parmesan. The set lunch is fantastic value; that diners can enjoy two courses of locally sourced, seasonal food, beautifully cooked for only £7.50 seems almost preposterous, if wonderfully so.High point: Beautiful, affordable foodLow point: The shop front is not as welcoming as the staff within
