We dined here for dinner last week with friends. We had remembered having a wonderful meal here on our last visit to Edinburgh around 15 years ago and decided to look it up and see if it was still in business. I am pleased to...More

This was the best meal I had in the city. It’s a pub dining experience, however it isn’t your normal standard fare. It’s a massive step up. I had the pigeon breast starter and the rump of lamb main. Both very beautifully presented, very clever...More

The food was outstanding. We had hallibut cooked to perfection. The stuff is very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere of this restaurant with a pub is lovely. If you stay in New Town that is a must. Reservation is highly recommend!

We arrived slightly later than expected at our hotel. We asked for any recommendations of places to eat near the hotel. The magnum on the corner of Albany street was mentioned. It was 22.05 and the kitchen was closing. However, they let us eat, I...More

This is a wee gem just in the periphery of the its centre. The staff are great, the regulars decent, and they do a mean dirty martini. I’ve eaten here on several occasions and it has been delicious; pub grub with an edge of sophistication....More

The Magnum Bar was located close to our hotel. We arrived late and wanted to eat but not a full meal so late in the day. Luckily this place had a very tasty tapas selection which suited us down to the ground. That and the...More

Great atmosphere, friendly staff and good homely food! Used by most of the locals, so that speaks for itself!

Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to
malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton
have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a
mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village
found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything
but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street;
even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and
art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The

For great food and wine and an old-fashioned good time, you can't go wrong with this delightful and traditional restaurant in Albany Street, Edinburgh. As you enter the dark, seductive dining room – filled with candles and tall palms – it will be a case of love at first sight and we guarantee you'll want to curl up in a corner and stay forever. The cosmopolitan crowd love the cosy, comfortable vibe, and we love the walls decorated with whisky-inspired poetry from a local writer. Signature dishes at The Magnum Restaurant include the rib-eye steak served with pink fir fries; the venison burger with chips cooked in delicious, salty beef dripping; and the tempura Peterhead haddock with lemon tartare and a green pea puree.
