This place is in a great location. Quiet enough to have a conversation, like your own local, yet central to the city centre and in a very good neighbourhood. Food was okay, I went for the Fife sausages and mash. Not quite hitting the gastro-pub...More

After a tiring day exploring the city, we found ourselves looking for a place to eat and to knock back a few drams. We were met with a warm welcome. The staff were all extremely friendly. The manager in particular had a fantastic knowledge of...More

Great place for a few drinks, some bar snacks or a full meal. Ideal to escape the bustle of the festival, and close to town.

Went on a Friday evening for food and it knocked our socks off! Fantastic service from the tall lad behind the bar and the food was exquisite - scottish pub food at its best. Haggis spring rolls are especially recommended. Good wines, and it was...More

My husband and I were treated to an evening meal out here. I chose the battered haddock and hand cut fries and it was one of the best I have had recently. The batter was light and crispy and the fish perfectly cooked was perfectly...More

After reading the reviews my expectations were high and we were looking forward to a nice lunch and a lovely afternoon in Edinburgh. Being vegetarian my options were limited but I was quite enthused by the dishes on offer, both starter and main were fresh...More

Cosy pub-restaurant in the new town part of Edinburgh. Nice menu, good wine list and a pleasant (but small) sun facing terrace. Nice staff too.

We were there on a packed Friday night and they had 2 bar tenders and 2 waitresses for the entire place. Mind you there are 2 bars and 2 indoor dining rooms and an outside dining area. It took an hour from the time we...More

Dear Mike D. Thank you for taking the time to review The Magnum Bar and Restaurant. Without feedback from our customers we cannot hope to improve our service and standards. On Friday evening we were unexpectedly a member of staff short and as a result...More

Our first day in the gorgeous city of a Edinburgh after a long flight, transfer from Heathrow and drive to our rental apartment had left us tired and a bit disoriented. Luckily our hostess had left some recommendations for nearby good food and a short...More

Two out of four appetizers and entrees were very disappointing. Wine list was over priced, the quality did not match the prices. Relative to other restaurants in town, they do not seem confident in their food and wine offerings.

Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to
malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton
have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a
mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village
found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything
but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street;
even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and
art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The

For great food and wine and an old-fashioned good time, you can't go wrong with this delightful and traditional restaurant in Albany Street, Edinburgh. As you enter the dark, seductive dining room – filled with candles and tall palms – it will be a case of love at first sight and we guarantee you'll want to curl up in a corner and stay forever. The cosmopolitan crowd love the cosy, comfortable vibe, and we love the walls decorated with whisky-inspired poetry from a local writer. Signature dishes at The Magnum Restaurant include the rib-eye steak served with pink fir fries; the venison burger with chips cooked in delicious, salty beef dripping; and the tempura Peterhead haddock with lemon tartare and a green pea puree.
