Just too busy and not enough staff, ok it's leading up to Christmas, but the place was crammed and service at bar absolutely dreadful - one of the bar staff stood making cocktails in slow motion when it was three deep. Have to agree with Lori review about the toilets - a real put off. Only saving grace was the... More

On the pedestrianised Rose Street, this is an excellent restaurant for lunch or dinner. A wide range of dishes, open sandwiches, and tasty soups

We visited yesterday for the first time. They had already decorated for Christmas and the space looked beautiful. We had brunch which was not bad. The only thing was that the eggs were a bit underdone. The service was great and relatively fast so, overall enjoyed it.

Group of 14 of us visited for dinner last night (pre booked). Squashed into what would have been a table for 8 people. No room to move. Waiter, although very charming, had such a poor command of English language order had to be retaken. Food average Ladies toilets were smelly and filthy. Bin overflowing and wet paper towels on the... Pre-match dining works well at Element. We have been using the restaurant for games for the past three years. Ideal location, good setting and style and staple fare for pre-match food and drink loading! 3 full Scottish breakfasts and a pave steak were duly polished off with numerous pints of guiness and beer. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. Only criticism... More

Stopped in here for a couple of drinks as it was close to our hotel. Bar staff were friendly and helpful and this place has a great atmosphere. Didn't eat but the food looked good.

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
