We visited Element on a recommendation after another restaurant was booked up. It ended up being wonderful! The atmosphere was great with lots of pillows and plush seating and our waitress was great with lots of good recommendations. We ordered drinks, fish and duck dishes, and dessert and everything was so, so yummy. We would definitely come back here again... More

This was the nicest bar we visited in Edinburgh. From the minute we walked in the staff were great and the Italian barman made us some lovely coffees. The wine and beers were good also. Would have tried the food if we'd had time.

Lovely restraunt on the inside and decorated beautifully with Christmas decorations. The chap who showed us to our table was very friendly. I had the rib eye steak which was cooked to perfection. The toilets were not clean and the guy who took our order wasn't the friendliest, it was busy when we were in so it didn't bother me... More

Attractive door in the heart of tourist Edinburgh, nice atmosphere, lovely staff though was told that many are leaving as new management and less pleasant to work for. Sadly the food was underwhelming, interesting menu and well-presented but lacking in flavour or texture. Won't go back.

What can I say! Apart from as usual atmosphere was brilliant, food fantastic and staff friendly! Considering New Year's Eve and how busy it was I was found a table! Always come here from drinks every year when I'm Edinburgh and first time I've eaten here but it certainly won't be the last :)

We popped in for a bite to eat and a glass of wine one lunchtime. The starter of onion soup and bacon and cheese muffins was super tasty, filling, and a meal in itself. Element is a lovely wine bar / bistro with a warm comfortable ambiance and friendly service.

Thank you GiveMeFive, You're right, we love the French Onion soup too. We had it on as a special, and haven't been able to take it off the menu since, it has been so popular. That's thanks to a true French man in the kitchen. Kind regards Mike More

I had been to this pub for cocktails with friends at the end of November and had such a good time I decided to try the food when in Edinburgh for an overnight on Boxing Fay with my husband. So glad I did! The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. I had sea bream, which... More

We popped in twice on Christmas Eve. Once in the afternoon and then before the light show in George street. Very quaint and Christmassy. Good beers and wines and reasonable prices. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great little bar.

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
