When we arrived were seated quickly, order was taken promptly and we waited approximately 15 minutes for our starters. However our main meal was not so quick to be delivered and when it arrived they realised they had given my partner the incorrect order and removed the food, we then waited another 20 minutes for mains. Food was tasty. Staff... More

Stumbled over this place after watching a local event. Seemed out to be a very well run restaurant, with nice food for reasonable prices. Lovely negroni as well!

Four of us went to La Piazza last night with very high hopes due to Trip adviser rating. The waiter was excellent and very efficient but the food was very poor. We had four different main courses and each was very poorly presented and tasted as poor as its appearance. Sadly we will not return. There are amazing Italian restaurants... More

Catriona and I hosted a lunch for two friends along with ourselves and we all had a wonderful time. The food was outstanding, as was the service and the cleanliness of the premises. When next in Edinburgh we will definitely be lunching here again.

I went there last night and was amazing! We had carbonara pasta and spaghetti napolitana (with meat and gorgonzola cheese) everything tasted delicious and seems so natural! And the price was so good, around 15£ each dish.

As this was the last night of our trip and the weather was miserable this was the perfect spot. The staff were friendly and the food was lovely. We were also happy to see an Italian couple sitting near us who appeared to be regulars...usually a good sign! The menu had a great selection of pastas and it was very... More

Why disappointed? Because I'm a fairly regular frequenter to LP and have written glowing reports in the past but this visit left me decidedly underwhelmed. The fixed menu is usually a safe bet but I left feeling that price certainly won over quality. A reasonably tasty mushroom soup was followed by a limp and slightly over-cooked sea bass specimen with... More

4 of us ate here a few days ago and were very impressed. We all enjoy Italian and this was top class. The menu was very extensive and the ingredients were top quality. The food was so good we had every course and a couple of bottles of wine. Great fresh pasta, really good pizza, homemade desserts. Loved it.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
