We visited Cucina as we were celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary. The menu looked nice so we decided to give it a try which was a big mistake as far as the food was concerned. The menu shows Pork Belly however we were not informed the dish was changed when seated (reason we went in there was my husband wanted... More

We were staying at the G&V hotel to which this restaurant is linked to Cucina so booked a table at the same time as our room. A few days later I was called and advised that there would be a big party at the same time and asked if I would like to change the booking. Good customer service as... More

I wasn't sure what to expect, since the restaurant is part of a hotel. From the minute we arrived we were made to feel at home with a very personal and friendly service. The ambience was perfect and the. The food was amazing as were the staff. I will definately be back here.

We stayed at the G&V Royal Mile Hotel and had the luxury of just taking an elevator ride to this delicious restaurant where we had breakfast every morning. We didn't eat here the other meals so I can't write about them, but the breakfast buffet was incredible. If you're not a buffet fan, you can also order off the menu... More

One word: AMAZING. We had the Christmas menu (salmon roulade, liver pate, gnocchi & duck breast) with the wine pairing. One of the best meals I've had for ages and the wine was perfectly matched. When I looked at TA I was gobsmacked at how low it's ranking is compared to how good it was. The service was attentive (but... More

Great location but mediocre dinner. Chef should visit and taste at Sasso Bar & Cucina, Bia Bistrot and Locanda de Gusti to see what great good tastes like.

We were well received even though we didn't have any reservation on a Saturday night. The restaurant is placed on first floor at the Hotel George V, so we had to search a wee bit before finding it. The restaurant is a bit too colorful for my taste; too many styles mixed and this gives the room a sense of... More

Service was a little slow. The starter of minestrone soup was watery and flavourless. The main course(stuffed pepper) was okay but the sides of courgette and roasted potatoes were delicious. The cheese board was expensive for what it was. My husbands spaghetti and crab dish was delicious - so a mixed bag altogether.

We ate here on our first night in Edinburgh and weren't disappointed. I started of with Insalata Caprese - just the right mix of tomatoes and mozzarella - and my wife had the beef carpaccio which she enjoyed. We both then had the rib eye steak which was cooked to perfection. The only downside was the atmosphere - the restaurant... More

We visited cucina for lunch as part of an itison voucher. We had vouchers for 4 people but there were 5 adults and two kids in our group - this was the start of the trouble. It took 3 times to explain that we had a voucher and would order the last adult and kids meals from the a la... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
