We come here when we want to use the tastecard 241 deal somewhere in town. Cocktails are the highlight, good selection and standard of ingredients. The décor is nice and theres the option to sit on bench seats outside if its early avo. Food is average burgers/ noodles/ salads so bit hit or miss- important to order well. My noodles... More

Came to treacle after being previously last year (which we thoroughly enjoyed last time) menu had changed, although still looked good. Service was slow throughout, first our drinks order came wrong (which is easily done) and then two of our sandwiches came which were stale - had to go up to the bar and tell them it was inedible as... Unusual cocktails, fusion food - Asian influences, European food. Very tasty. Don't be frighted to experiment unlikely combinations on the menu. Burgers are huge and nicely presented. Soup home made and tasty. Well recommended.

Visited here for a sneaky post-dinner cocktail with colleagues. Great atmosphere and great cocktails. Quite cosy without being too squashed and noisy. Good work Treacle Bar.

To start with the service was slow throughout, one table we noticed left after no service. Once ordered drinks and food come out in a reasonable time. Food was excellent, apart from the chips. They were potato wedges, not chips as described on the menu. Sauce they came with wasn't to my taste either. Drinks were fine, didn't have any... More

We popped in with our puppy after a walk and had lunch and a pint. The staff were super friendly giving us dog friendly advice as we've just moved to the area. Food was really good! All in all well worth popping in

Booked for dinner after theatre. Girls christmas night out. Loved the quirky decor and there was a good buzz about the place. Cocktails were amazing - what a selection, and some really quirky ideas. Great drink choice / range. Food was okay, tasty, but maybe a bit overpriced (wasn't keen on the noodles being served in a takeaway box! No... More

Went here on a long weekend trip to Edinburgh. Really greats little pub/kitchen where we were served very tasty food. The katsu chicken was amazing. This place accepts tastecards too so make sure you check it out!

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
