During our visit to the festival we came in here almost every day for lunch. We appreciated the relative peace and quiet, the simple but nicely prepared and served food and on a couple of occasions the ability to plug in our phones to recharge...More

nice place at the library, where you can get into one of the permanent exhibits as you walk up the stairs. They do a range of sandwiches, cakes, soup and a variety of teas.

Having been to the cafe 3 months ago, I was passing by with a friend and decided to pop in for some lunch (after my previous good experience). I wasn't disappointed. We had some great toasted sandwiches and cups of tea. Staff were pleasant and...More

After spending a morning in the library, was able to have a nice lunch (broccoli soup with granary bread). Relaxing atmosphere, with an array of tables, low seats, bar stools and individual tables. Many others were also sitting using their laptops, plugged in for electricity,...More

If you are in this part of town this is very handy for a quick coffee, light lunch or cup of tea. Nothing fancy but you can usually get a table.

Come here often for coffee. Think their soft drinks are a bit steep though at £2 per bottle. I really like their fruit scones with jam and butter. They are always nice and soft, as I hate it when scones are lying for a while...More

Use the cafe whenever I'm in the National Library and it's always met my needs for a coffee or a bite to eat, when I've been in town or using the library. Pricing is reasonable for a city centre venue as well.

Visited for a coffee and cake. Very good coffee and the iced ginger cake very good. Not obvious there is a cafe open to the public so I relied on local knowledge from my companion. Great place to enjoy a coffee in a relaxed environment...More

Inside this public building is a neat cafe, which serves decent soup and rolls, coffee and traybakes. There are free newspapers too. A change from the regular tourist cafes - lots of locals here.

Three of us had a late lunch at a weekend. We went for basic options of soup and sandwiches which looked like the sensible options, but found pretty much everything just failed to hit the mark for simple but tasty food. Soup was thin and...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
