Looking for a place to eat, stumbled across Howies in the Grassmarket. The manager, Blair, recommended the Lamb Casserole. "Hug on a plate,' is how he phrased it. And indeed it was. Harty and satisfying. Great place if you are in the area.

Perhaps one of the best lunches we had in Edinburgh. nice 2 course meal for 10lbs and they were giving it away. My salmon was excellent as was the fish soup they call cullen skink. They have beer and wine and food specials, but make...More

My family and I were visiting Edinburgh a while ago and went by this restaurant. It smelled very good but unfortunately they were closing soon and we did not have time to get a table. Last time we went to Edinburgh we went straight there...More

At first we walked by Howies, but then remembered it was on our AirBnB host’s ‘recommended’ list, so we gave it a try. Even though it was busy, and we didn’t have dinner reservations, we were early enough to get a table for two. The...More

We fully intended to be adventurous on this visit to Edinburgh but our first dinner at Howies convinced us to stay with what was divine. So on two of our three evenings we allowed ourselves to be wined, dined and "desserted" at this friendly establishment....More

This place was recommended by our tour guide and we were so happy we took her up on it. This is a small cozy restaurant that serves really good food for a fraction of what you would pay for elsewhere. We couldn't believe the price...More

Had dinner Saturday night and found out Sunday this is an artifact in the food scene in Edinburgh! And it was well worth the visit! Stumbled upon this spot after getting rejected from Devils Advocate. Yet, we had the most wonderful meal of Haggis and...More

Nice central location in Victoria St. Quirky building that has been well laid out to make it a restaurant. Staff were helpful and friendly even although the restaurant was extremely busy. We enjoyed our food but really the portion sizes were more suitable for a...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
