There is a new choice of breakfast quiche with baked beans which I prefer to the insipid mixed green salad. Recently, I had the family dog with me, who was made very welcome with a bowl of water and biscuit. They also have pastries.

We found this place by luck, it was a pleasant surprise, such friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. We would certainly recommend it to passers by.

On a crisp Autumn day, we sat outside with a coffee and watched the world go by. The coffee is good, and the service is proficient. Near to the Stockbridge Sunday food market. Nice to sit after a busy shop.

We stopped in around 6:30 pm on a sunday. Everywhere was mostly closed or closing and we saw they stayed open on weekends until 8. We went in and we each had a different version of a hot chocolate. You can choose milk or dark chocolate which is really nice. My wife isn't a big milk chocolate person so this... More

After a long day walking round Edinburgh we (almost literally) stumbled into this lovely cafe. The flat whites were delicious and the patisserie was fabulous - pain au raisin, and a lemon tart and a strawberry tart were all the equal of anything we have had in France. Lovely.

Visited here on Friday. Were able to take our St Bernard in too. Very tasty club sandwich and coffees. Cakes fabulous. Great staff, nothing too much trouble, would definitely recommend.

Came here with our 6 month puppy and was pleased to see he was allowed to come inside and sit with us. The waiter even gave him a bowl of water and a dog biscuit! Just lovely. I had scrambled egg on toast which was delicious and my boyfriend had a bacon roll cooked to his liking. Very friendly staff... More

Visited on busy Sunday, food was delicious, and served with really friendly staff. Had coffees really tasty, and as I requested mine to be a weak latte, which often doesn't come as requested in some cafe, it was served exactly as asked and was really tasty. Would recommend visiting.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
