Went to Auld Hoose to get their famous Nachos. Massive plate of nachos was amazing and well priced. Great Happy Hour deals as well. Plus a student discount!!! I was full before we got halfway through the nachos, so if you order them, bring several friends along. With great vegetarian options, you'll love the atmosphere. Different music genres nightly, and... More

Wanting to experience traditional Scottish fare without the meat, we came in search of this place with its reputation for vegan haggis. We weren't disappointed. Enormous vegan nachos and delicious all-day breakfast with the haggis included.

I loved my meal at the Auld Hoose, their vegan options are plentiful and their service was splendid. I had the vegan Scottish Breakfast and was left so satisfied and full. The staff member knew his stuff about gin, too, and provided sound advice to help me make my beverage choice.

Amazing place, will definitely visit again.. Loved the style of the place and it was lively but not overly crowded.. The nachos are crazy yummy and even the regular ones are huge.. The bartender was kind enough to warn us not to order more food (as we were planning to) and it was a good call.. We were struggling to... More

We stumbled across this place and took a wander inside. We ordered the regular vegan Nacho's, vegan hotdog and the onion ring tower. The Nacho's were nice, personally I felt they were a bit dry and could use a little salsa but that's a personal preference. The guacamole portion was incredibly generous and very tasty. It was one of the... More

Some good selections of craft beers, good, well present food which, can be pricey when adding all the required side dishes. The beef burgers were very tasty. Although if a group of you fancy the sharing plates it can be reasonable.

2nd visit against my wishes but it is nearest pub to The Kismot Restaurant and we were early. Looked through window and the pub has been spruced up a bit, so had hopes of improvement. Served by a surly barman. Pub do not sell Irn Bru ! Only diet option was coke, so the boss opted for vodka and diet... More

LOLThomas, This one star review was already decided before you walked through the door, I suspect. So we never had a chance. You were both extremely rude for the duration of the visit, glaring as you entered the pub. Vodka and coke served in a tall glass with ice and lemon is a perfectly reasonable serve. Addlestones is a low... More

The place was cool looking but our food took 50 minutes to arrive. Vegan nachos didn't seem like that hard of an order but apparently it was. After looking at other reviews this seems to be a consistent problem with the kitchen staff. Overall the nachos weren't even that great. Don't go if you are in a hurry or are... More

Description
The Home Of Edinburgh's Largest Nachos! We serve quality pub food in nice big portions. Favourites include our famous nachos, burgers, hot dogs and burritos. Lots of our dishes are vegetarian and many are vegan. We are very passionate about beer. We serve Brewdog's Punk IPA and Brooklyn Lager permanently, and our guest ale comes from craft breweries such as Alechemy, Dark Star, Five Points, Fyne Ale, Magic Rock, Moor, Summer Wine and Tiny Rebel. Our jukebox is legendary in Edinburgh for having the best selection of metal, punk and goth music. Bands such as Alice In Chains, Black Flag, Danzig, Deftones, Kyuss, Mastodon, Nick Cave, Nitzer Ebb, Rage Against The Machine and Tiger Army make up the soundtrack to a stay in The Auld Hoose. Children are not permitted on the premises at any time, and we don't take reservations. Oh yeah, students get a 10% discount on all food purchases!

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
