I read a lot of good reviews of The Auld Hoose and that is why we decided to visit. I has vegan burrito, Johnny had veggie burrito and onion rings, Anushka had veggie nachos. The portions were very large, which we expected as everyone says this. I would say the food was fine, I would like to have home made... More

I've heard about the auld hoose on vegan blogs and forums, and dragged my boyfriend here as soon as we got into Edinburgh. He said it was the best burger he ever had, and I would say the same about my hot dog and onion rings. We completely went out of our way to come back here on the second... More

We went for the nachos opting for vegan chillie but keeping the cheese and sour cream. I doubt this place is lying when they claim to have the biggest nacho's in Edinburgh but highly doubt they are the best. The chillie itself was spicy but lacking in flavour. Also, we went for chicken poppers and please get heaps of BBQ... More

Hi Honey B, Thank you for your review. Shame you didn't dig the nachos - they're dead popular. Likewise with the Popcorn Chicken - handmade with a lot of love. Kind regards, Jonathan More

As a vegan, it can be traumatic trying to find restaurants to eat at with your non-vegan friends. Auld Hoose solves this issue with meat-eater, vego and vegan options for everything on the menu! I had a plate of nachos the size of my head and hubby had a burger...both were super delish. Everyone else in our group loved the... More

These nachos are literally the best in Edinburgh. Whether it's the platter for 2 your self or the monster mountain to share the value for money for weight of food is incredible. If your sharing you could see your self fed for £4. As a lover of beef I have not tried the vegetarian option but have had it recommended... More

Went to Auld Hoose to get their famous Nachos. Massive plate of nachos was amazing and well priced. Great Happy Hour deals as well. Plus a student discount!!! I was full before we got halfway through the nachos, so if you order them, bring several friends along. With great vegetarian options, you'll love the atmosphere. Different music genres nightly, and... More

Wanting to experience traditional Scottish fare without the meat, we came in search of this place with its reputation for vegan haggis. We weren't disappointed. Enormous vegan nachos and delicious all-day breakfast with the haggis included.

Description
The Home Of Edinburgh's Largest Nachos! We serve quality pub food in nice big portions. Favourites include our famous nachos, burgers, hot dogs and burritos. Lots of our dishes are vegetarian and many are vegan. We are very passionate about beer. We serve Brewdog's Punk IPA and Brooklyn Lager permanently, and our guest ale comes from craft breweries such as Alechemy, Dark Star, Five Points, Fyne Ale, Magic Rock, Moor, Summer Wine and Tiny Rebel. Our jukebox is legendary in Edinburgh for having the best selection of metal, punk and goth music. Bands such as Alice In Chains, Black Flag, Danzig, Deftones, Kyuss, Mastodon, Nick Cave, Nitzer Ebb, Rage Against The Machine and Tiger Army make up the soundtrack to a stay in The Auld Hoose. Children are not permitted on the premises at any time, and we don't take reservations. Oh yeah, students get a 10% discount on all food purchases!

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
