Very stylish restaurant with immaculately presented and highly professional staff. Great choice of venue for a meal with business colleagues. Crab, scallops, lobster, l'escargot and steaks all beautifully cooked and presented. Meal was complimented by some very nice wines from a very well balanced wine list. Throughly enjoyable evening.

I visited for Sunday lunch with a large group with a preselected menu. The main was beef brisket with Yorkshire pudding and veg. On arrival, the Yorkshire was stone cold - no evidence of any heat at all - the plate was cold, and one bite of the beef revealed that it was barely lukewarm, so I sent it back.... More

I had booked this restaurant as it was close to our hotel and a short taxi ride to the concert we were attending. The booking was made through their central booking line and was made specifically for their Pre-Theatre dinner. I checked the prices at time of booking and was advised £16 for 2 courses and £19 for 3 courses.... More

Visited with family one Sunday lunch. Have been many times before and always really enjoyed both the food, wine and service. This time, however, the service felt very nervous with young and inexperienced waiters with no sign of guidance from a senior member of the team. The food fell a bit short too. Nothing drastic, just not as good as... More

We went to Pompadour last year and loved it. Brasserie this year pretty much as good. Excellent service, haggis starter to die for, amazing steak, finished with chocolate cake. A lovely Italian white with food and chambord to finish. A second mention for the service. Treated very well. Will be back

What a great experience! Lovely friendly and efficient staff, good atmosphere and amazing food. Our dishes of pork and venison were sublime - rarely eaten better. Well worth the money and we will be coming back. (If I had been resident, however, I'd have been pretty ticked off at having to go outside the brasserie to get into back to... More

Great food in a very nice restaurant. The seasonal menu with wine is fantastic value for top notch food with wine to match.

As we were traveling with a group, the restaurant accommodated us for a quick pre-theater dining. The menu lets you choose from 2 starters, 2 entrees, 2 desserts. Choices the night we are there were underwhelming. Service was extremely slow. We were one of the first tables to be seated and the last to be served. Many other places to... More

We had a very lovely evening with friends. There was a large group of us & we had a private area. Perfect for a celebration. It was a set 3 course menu. Each course was delicious. I'd really recommend this is poking for a private dining room.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
