We were a party of 9, our server was very morose and did not listen, food orders were brought out incorrectly and staff frowned when told, even when paying for our bill, wrong amounts taken.

Bread at the beginning of the meal was cold and indistinguished. Fish cakes were dreadful. Sorbet dessert and stout ale were great. People told me the beef was great. Risotto was good but Gordon Ramsay would be shocked at the presentation. Nice interior. Nice staff, but not enough for a tour group of 48.

Food was very good, though I thought the a la carte menu was a little overpriced. Wait staff were friendly and pleasant though obviously overworked as we had difficulty attracting attention to refresh our drinks and to obtain the check. Lunch menu is reasonably priced.

Visited Browns in Edinburgh for the second time. The food was great, I had Devon Brown Crab and it was beautiful followed by a Brown's Burger, which was freshly made with ground beef and very tasty. The service was good and the staff friendly. It was a Monday and the restaurant was reasonably busy but the service good and fast.

The atmosphere in this restaurant is second to none. Busy and Bustling with a sense of excitement about the place matched only by Edinburgh itself. The service and the food is fabulous Brasserie style but large portions served with love and flair. My Favorite place in this fabulous city

Very attentive staff, we even got travel tips for the city which were really useful. Excellent brunch, fresh, hot, well cooked - just fantastic - and it was in the last 10 mins of breakfast service time. Nothing too much trouble. Hollandaise sauce to die for!!

We were a small group of family and friends. It was ideal, good range of food and drinks and relatively quick and friendly service. Reasonable cost for the centre of Edinburgh and everybody left feeling satisfied.

I had a 2 hour wait between trains so decided to head to Browns. I had been there before, but that was a while ago, so thought it was time to go back. I met up with a friend, sat at a quiet table and had a great chat. He had the beef roast, which looked really good ( he... More

First time here and loved the place! The food was delicious and not too expensive from the lunch time menu. Service was very good, however not keen on the compulsory 10% service charge!

Thank scott1421

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
