Frankensteins bar / restaurant in Edinburgh is a lively place , seems to be mostly suited to the younger generation . A group of us visited last week while up that way , we are all in our 60s , the entertainment is fun, a huge crash of thunder and lots of smoke and frankenstein slowly drops down from above... More

Bobby Pickett’s ‘Monster Mash’ lyrics wouldn’t stop running through my head…. Quirky, fun place We have found when traveling with younger children (ours at the time were 10, 11, 13), you need to balance the historic must-see places with some fun thrown in. My husband and I refer to this bait and switch tactic as our ‘smoke and mirrors’ travel... More

So a good interior - we need more of this. The waiters was so friendly and it was great to see the original movie again and again :D

Great querky pub and like Janet ...my first time. Glad the taxi man took us to the wrong place as it turned out to the right place. After a lovely dinner in a hot restaurant ...we decided to cool down with a cold beer and very interesting decor. One point though maybe ensure some loo paper in the ladies please?... More

This place is different, full Frankenstein theme running through. Great choice of beers and drinks, spread over 3 floors. My only issue is the music, though we managed to get Frankenstein by Alice Cooper played, the music was mostly pop music and didnt really fit the feeling of the place. However I get that they have to play to the... More

Really good pub with god atmosphere, I enjoyed the music and the spooky decoration. The drinks a little bit expensive, and the service is ok.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
