Nice atmosphere, good food, good service. Nice nachos and we tried the burritos's. Big servings. Could be a little more authentic and flavourful.

We were looking for a reasonably quick meal before the Tattoo and walked past Viva Mexico. Honestly, as Texans we were rather skeptical about Mexican food in Scotland but ended up being incredibly impressed with the food and very much enjoyed our meals. The staff...More

Took Parents on Friday evening. Lovely decor, and an interesting location. Food - slow service (kind of understandable). Missing salsa. First try of Mole. Good, but too much of an interesting sauce. Too little chicken and contrasting condiments (see salsa). Daughter really liked her kids...More

Fun atmosphere and decor, reasonable service but the food was bland. No depth of flavour or spice. All dishes were served with sludgy refried beans and tasteless packet style rice. Expensive for the ordinariness of the food too. Disappointed as the menu promised so much.

Visited as a group on trip to Edinburgh, food was excellent and service was prompt and courteous. Will be back.

Great venue that allows a party of 20 to be seated and still feel like we have time, space and room to enjoy ourselves! Good was great and service matched it. Thanks guys

I always come here when I'm working up in Edinburgh. I love coming here for three reasons! One, the food is great. As a veggie, they do some really nice dishes, that I don't usually see in Mexican menus. Two, the service is friendly and...More

Stopped for lunch and it was delicious - we had the nachos, burrito and chimichanga- all really tasty and very generous chicken filling. Also had some cocktails - Pina Colada, Strawberry Margarita and Mango Margarita - again, all amazing. Would definitely return!

Looooooved this find!! I'm a Texan, and we love our Tex-Mex. I was exploring Cockburn one night and stumbled across this place. I passed it by thinking, no way....not in Scotland...can't be good. Something made me go back, and I was so glad I did....More

We enjoyed our food. Tacos were very good but despite the restaurant not being that busy the service was patchy. The acoustics made it difficult to have a conversation because of the noise from other tables.

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

Description
The Gonzalez family opened Viva Mexico in August 1984, intending to bring the true taste of Mexico to Edinburgh, and 31 years later we are still striving to do the same. In the intervening years there have been many changes, notably in how the restaurant has grown, but we are still trying to do what we set out to do all those years ago - to give all our guests a real flavour of Mexico. With three rooms spread over two floors the restaurant is equally suited for romantic dinners for two, quick business lunches or parties, the back room particularly can cater for a single group of up to 25 seated at tables or 40 as a buffet.
