Although a little hard to find as this quaint gem is above street level, it was well worth the search! Wonderfully prepared fresh scallops, oysters and halibut at a table overlooking the street. Service was friendly and attentive. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and made appreciated suggestions, including informing us immediately of some changes to the menu.... More

The Grain Store offers many reasons for you to visit. The perfect setting for a romantic meal in the nooks and crannies of stone walls and archways. And most important, the delicious food from seafood to beef or lamb. Save room for dessert too. It is open for dinner each night from six pm to 9:30 and for lunch M-Sat,... More

Great meal, wonderfully prepared and graciously served. The quality of the meal was even better than I expected given the reviews I had read. The ambiance is perfect for couples or a few friends. Quiet, great for talking and eating. The wine list is very good.

Had a chance meeting with the owner Carlo in the Bow bar and booked to visit the next day! Knew nothing about the place but looked on TripAdvisor and was pleased and excited by the reviews! We couldn't have been more impressed when we arrived! We could have missed this experience if we hadn't bumped into Carlo as it could... More

We visited the Grain Store for dinner on a Saturday night in Edinburgh. Quite simply put, the food here was incredible. It's quite pricey - but definitely worth the money. I had the crab and lobster ravioli to start and the beef for the main and they were both absolutely fantastic. The restaurant is nice too. It's upstairs from the... More

The food was fantastic, As good as you'd find in Edinburgh. Lovely romantic candle lit dinner. The restaurant is a gem for those that love an oldey worldly interior with the history of the building making it full of character. Genuine, happy service.

I highly recommend this place. The food was just incredible, great starters and the venison was extraordinary. The service was impeccable, we were well looked after by a team of lovely staff who were friendly and careful, special honors to the blond waiter from Brazil who went above and beyond for us delivering a genuinely kind and state of the... We stayed in Edinburgh at The Apex International in The Grassmarket so the restaurant was very conveniently located only a few minutes walk away. The staff were very friendly and attentive, the food was excellent and the service speed was very comfortable. The dining area was located on the first floor up a flight of stairs, I don't recollect a... More

A delightful dining experience that was full of passion and love of what they do shining through from the staff. A skilled and competent kitchen team sent out some well executed dishes that were very flavoursome and filling. Super wine throughout the meal also, Will certainly return if back in Edinburgh

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
