We received a warm welcome here. Reasonably priced fresh and tasty food. Delicious bacon roll & tea. A very tempting selection of home made cakes on the counter. We would definitely return.

We stopped here for lunch on a weekday morning. Although the place looked full from outside, the waitress found us a table. The menu was interesting and the food, when it came, was very fresh and very tasty. The place was buzzing with a nice atmosphere and the staff were all very cheery and friendly. Nice clean loos too! Would... More

I popped in for a cup of tea by myself after work. The staff called over from the counter to my table that they were closing in half an hour. They didn't bother coming over to talk to me. They actually pulled a face when I said that was fine. I then asked if they did table service or whether... More

We stopped in for a quick breakfast here and had the worst waffle ever! We were shocked when it was served with a side salad and tomatoes on top of the waffle! We brushed the salad away from the waffle and poured some syrup on it and took a bite. Crunch crunch what the? The amount of crunchy sugar in... More

Stopped here for a coffee and a snack. Quaint little eatery. Freindly staff. Nice atmosphere. Didn't eat a lot but what we had was nice.

The tomato soup was really really good. We also tried the Sandwiches which were really delicious. However, the waffles were the most tasty thing we had that day. And the coffee was just perfect. A really good spot for a quick bite. And the quality and taste of the food definitely justify the slightly higher prices.

My sweet tooth craved some nutella on the day I visited this café and I was not disappointed. Nice atmosphere and tasty treats to go along with my tea. The staff was attentive and friendly as well.

Very bad experience - staff are vile - avoid. Food was average but limited selection and overpriced - staff just ruin whole experience

Popped in to grab a bite to eat at lunchtime. Nice atmosphere but rickety tables and a poor selection of food. Opted for the waffle with bacon and brie- give it a miss! Flabby bacon and waffles so sweet you can't taste any brie at all. Overpriced lunch and a disappointment overall.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
