If you're looking for great vegetarian food this is the place. The food was tasty and creatively put together. I loved the kofta, indeed everything I ate was excellent and the service was very good too.

A great place with great food. There's a really good variety of dishes on offer, as well as wines. We were welcomed warmly by staff, and service was really good - not rushed, but not having to wait ages for things we'd asked for either, despite it being very busy the night we went. We'd both highly recommend dining here.... More

We three vegetarians had a lovely meal at this restaurant and all felt spoilt for choice. The chilli pancake with chocolate sauce was very unusual but beautifully cooked. Everything looked and tasted fresh and high quality. It was moderate value for money for a central location just off the Royal Mile.

A friend brought me to David Bann Restaurant when I having lunch with them and two other friends from Canada. My friend is very much a carnivore, but he raved about this restaurant and suggested it as I was pretty sure my other friends were vegetarian. I had amazing risotto, and everyone was happy with their dishes. It's a bit... More

We were in Edinburgh for the weekend from London and being vegetarian , looked for restaurants with vegetarian meals and good reviews. This place lived up to its name in every aspect. The service and ambiance was great and there was a buzz that we felt. The menu was interesting and lived up to its promises. A good evening that... More

Visited with three friends last week. We meet up regularly and have visited a number of restaurants in Edinburgh over the years. Nobody in the party is vegetarian but one had visited before and wanted the rest of us to try it. While I enjoyed the experience I shall not be rushing back as very little on the menu appealed... I thought we'd be in for a real treat, sadly it was a bit of anti-climax. We had two starters which were Thai fritter of broccoli and marinated tofu I had the salad of red cabbage, beetroot & pomegranate with smoked cheese sauce. These were good and tasty and set us up for our main course, which was spicy quinoa... More

The food was unexciting and lacking in flavour. While writing this review I checked back on the menu and I see that I had walnut, leek and spinach roulade. Was that what it was? It had been blended down to the consistency of baby food with no particular flavours, sat on a splodge of mashed potato (which was actually quite... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
