Local friends chose the venue and we could not have been more pleased. Tasteful, smallish place towards the Holyrood end of the Royal Mile. Modern menu based on traditional Scottish foods. Examples: deer carpaccio appetizer, local scallops, Buccleuch beef. Everyone in our party of 6...More

I cannot decide which was better, the service or the food. The waiting staff were friendly and interested without being intrusive. They looked after us splendidly and the manager made a special effort to check we were enjoying ourselves. The food was phenomenal...we were tempted...More

We had a late lunch. We ate the sea bass with potatoes and cauliflower soup and then my husband at the venison and red cabbage with potatoes. Both dishes were excellent. We would highly recommend. The staff were friendly and excellent in taking care of...More

Excellent tasting and wine pairings, featuring best of Scotland land and sea. Competent service complimented the thoughtfully curated and sourced menu and wine list for a far-above-tourist-fare experience. An oasis of elegance on the crowded Royal Mile.

Popped in here by chance, and was pleasantly surprised. They have a fixed price lunch menu for 15 pounds, which I thought was a great deal despite it being rated with four dollar signs. Maybe dinner is much more expensive? In any case, I had...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly

that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
