Superb food, great service. Well worth treating yourself. 6 of us visited for a meal, the food and service was superb. Scallops and black pudding were perfect and the beef was also cooked to perfection and very well presented. Others in the party had chicken...and were equally impressed. Deserts all excellent too. Thank you.More

This was our third visit to this hotel, returning because we really enjoy how we were treated and the excellent service we have received in the past. The hotel was easy to book, I made a phone call to discuss their rates and see if...they had any offers on! Always better to call and discuss with the owners! The rooms we have had were very comfortable, clean and have their own characters, the hotel has two open fires , both offering that lovely welcoming feeling we all look forward to. The staff make genuine efforts to be friendly and helpful and gave our dog that special welcome. (especially Sheena) We eat our meals in the bar where our dog can join us, this allows us to meet and chat with others doing exactly what we are doing. The food is lovely presented with flavours to entice you to return. Whether you are staying in the hotel or just in the area, keep their restaurant in mind, you will not be disappointed. When you consider a hotel or restaurant, we all look for quality, value and great service, where your hard earned money is appreciated. We believe The Rowan Tree Hotel - Restaurant has it all. Fantastic stay at The Rowan Tree Country House Hotel and will definitely be back. Can’t fault the hotel in any way the staff were brilliant and so helpful, they made our stay better than we could have expected. A special thank you to Sheena who...made our dogs feel extra welcome and we will be back to see her in the Spring! Best things out our stay were the food (absolute 5 star) and friendly and happy staff. We had a comfortable room with everything we needed for a relaxing Hogmanay break.More

We have been going to Aviemore since the mid to late 1990’s, spending a week that includes Christmas with our children and friends. This year we extended our stay by booking into the wonderful, welcoming Rowan Tree Hotel. The staff and management were friendly and...the service was excellent especially in the restaurant and bar. We booked in for our evening meal on one of the nights and have to say the food was very very good. Altogether a delightful experience and one we hope to experience again. Apologies for taking the room key home, it is on its way back via post and should be there shortly. Thank you.More

Our first dinner in Aviemore and it was excellent. We had the seared venison and the poached hake. Both were very well prepared. We also had the cheese course after dinner and enjoyed three local cheeses. The ambiance is very nice--it's a quiet, elegant dinner...which was a nice change from the less formal meals we usually had while traveling.More

Truly outstanding food from venison to Salted Caramel souffle. Cannot recommend the friendly staff and ambience highly enough. Stunning location with great views over and walks around Alvie loch. A find and just off the A9, so really handy for a road trip.

We were a party of four this time, plus a young dog. We couldn't have had a nicer welcome, despite arriving late (tough weather en route!); lovely meals and extremely friendly atmosphere. Warm, comfortable rooms. The staff were wonderful, and coped with the dog with...aplomb (and gave some handy tips). The owners are great, and hugely knowledgeable about the area (we have stayed there before). No problem about drying wet boots! The setting is magnificent, on the edge of the Rothiemurchus Estate, yet easy to get to from the A9 and near the facilities of Aviemore. Highly recommended: we will be back!More

Not as spectacular as we were expecting. Some previous reviews are correct in saying that the restaurant lacks consistency. We visited twice in one week, first visit the food was exceptionally good so we booked again for a few days later but it wasn’t the...same. First visit the staff are good, very attentive & professional, with a great welcome but second time it was a different crew and much rougher around the edges! Food was the same, first time it was exceptional but second time some plates were overcooked / burnt whilst others had cold plates to complement the cold food. This was pointed out to the staff but no reduction was made in the hill. We rated it 9/10 first visit but only 4/10 on the second. Inconsistent!!More

Always a pleasure to dine at this cosy & welcoming Highland hotel and restaurant. We wanted to eat early and this was no problem; delicious food at very reasonable prices. We were made very welcome by the owner Johny Cassidy.

We booked the restaurant on the back of reviews on this site. It was a special occasion to have a family meal to celebrate my mums 76th birthday. We arrived at the restaurant to be greeted by friendly staff who informed us that they had...reserved us a private room as there was 10 of us in our party so we could enjoy our evening together with privacy. This was a great start. The evening went downhill from there. The room was bolted on the end of the dining room. We walked through what was a nice warm vibrant dining room into our room. They had no heating on, it was freezing cold in there. My mum had to keep her big coat on for the entire meal. They did put on a radiator but only when we asked. We ordered our food. The starters came out. Most of us had Cullen Skink which is supposed to be a hearty soup made with smoked fish and vegetables. It was about as hearty as a cup of tea, bland and the main ingredient was small pieces of potato. I had a couple of traces of fish in mine but not much. Very disappointed, even more so when no bread rolls were offered which you would expect with soup. For main courses most of us ordered fillet streak. I have never in my life seen suck small pieces of steak which can have been no more than 4 ounces. It was served with one large chip basically. My niece asked for the sauce separate, but it came all over her steak. When she complained they took it away telling her they would bring a new one. The same piece of steak came back, they had just washed off the sauce and put it back under the grill making it dry and overcooked. I had salmon again which was the smallest portion I have ever seen. The piece of fish no more than a centimetre thick and the size of a cigarette packet. Four mouthfuls and it was gone. Deserts were ok but nothing to write home about. The bill was just under £600 for 10 of us, which included 3 year old and three teenagers. I live in the south and regularly eat in good London restaurants. The Rowan Tree is priced at that level but falls woefully short in delivering standard of food. It is a shame because the actually food tasted ok. The setting itself is nice but they are maximising profit and the expense of decent portions and missing the basics like making sure the room is warm and ready for their guests. The waiting staff worked hard and were pleasantMore

We stopped here for lunch with our tour while touring Scotland. The food, the service, the ambiance were all wonderful making it a truly memorable experience. It was one of my favorite meals on our tour! We were even treated to a demonstration of how...to make scones. Would love to return someday.More

We were staying at the hotel and decided to dine for one evening. Restaurant space is lovely with a mix of tables for 2, for 4 and for 6. Service is efficient but not rushed leading to a very relaxing experience. Food was out this...world. We had the Asian fishcake starter and the burger for Main - both were tasty and made with quality ingredients. Dessert was a creamy cheesecake. We were so impressed with the restaurant that we chose to dine for a 2nd evening - this time opting for the chicken and the steak. We only wish we had a restaurant of this quality closer to home as we would love to visit again! Highly recommended for anyone in or around Aviemore - a fantastic local restaurant that fully deserves the praise that it receives.More

Hi Jayne, yes, well behaved dogs are very welcome and can be accommodated in some of our guest rooms. Meals can be taken in the bar with dogs where the full restaurant menu is available. Booking is always advised.
