The service is slow but nice enough. We ordered the steak and grilled chicken. The chicken was dry and over cooked. It lacked all flavour and was just a greaseball. The steak had absolutely no flavour and was too fatty. The chips had been left sitting too long and it was just substandard quality. The non alcoholic drinks were way... More

Dinner on Saturday 19/11/16 at 16:15. Pretty busy but not full so no problem with getting a small intimate table. Not much space in between tables and can't see this place for large groups. Wait staff was friendly enough but they seemed a bit anxious/rush. Love the fact you can't book a table at this restaurant something very unpretentious about... More

Been here a few times and always busy, but managed to land just right when a table was available, but there was one hour wait by the time we left. The food is good and the service excellent, staff are not pushy and nothing is any bother. Fishcakes starters were good and the fish main course also excellent, I think... More

My husband and I had dinner here on Saturday, it was absolutely fantastic, I had the blue cheese and bacon burger which was delightful and cooked to perfection. The service was great the host found us a table sharpish and brought us drinks beside a lovely fire. We will be going back here very unique little restaurant.

We were pleasantly surprised by the intimate and charming setting of this restaurant, not to mention the equally charming and friendly staff. The little fireplace in the middle of their dining area is a wonderful respite from the cold outside. The food was excellent, especially the steaks, hamburgers and desserts. This is a great little haven for meat lovers and... More

Treated my wife for her recent birthday.. Left completely full and satisfied. I had the black pudding bonbons... Gorgeous... Followed by a fantastic T-Bone steak cooked perfectly. Their in-house butcher certainly knows a good cut of beef... It was just perfect. Accompanied by a side salad, coleslaw and some home made chips... It was superb. Prices are a bit on... More

Arrived at 5.45 pm as we knew they did not take bookings. They said the wait would be 30 mins to an hour but in the end was only 35 minutes. Pleasant half hour in the wee alcove with a pint in front of the wood burning stove. Half a mark off for not having real ale. They had Caledonia... More

We stopped at the Chop and Ale House on a whim, having been out all morning and left it a bit late for lunch. We arrived towards the end of lunchtime service, but were welcomed in and didn't feel rushed. The burger I had was cooked perfectly, with salad, sauce and fries all served separately, avoiding that overwhelming sense of... More

The great thing about the Chop & Ale House is that you can't book so you just turn up with fingers crossed. Because we were looking for some where for a late Sunday lunch this was perfect. The menu was varied and my husband chose the chorizo starter which was really smokey and delicious and we both went for burgers... More

I live fairly close to the Chop and Ale House and often tend to visit for a birthday celebration, anniversary or as a treat at Christmas time. My wife and I visited last night for her birthday. As usual the food is always consistently good. After ordering a bottle of the house red we opted to share a starter of... More
