Having read previous reviews and as we were staying in Mountcharles, we looked forward to visiting The Village Tavern. It is both an old-style bar and restaurant at the back. The staff are most welcoming and it is hard to leave the lovely fires at this time of year. The Guinness is in one word superb and the food was... More

We came here as part of a tour group - one of the extra excursions. Excellent choice! The seafood is locally sourced, as is the beef, lamb and vegetables. We had the Golden Crumbed Fish Cakes and the Grilled Fillet of Hake with Jameson Butter Sauce. Everything was prepared to perfection and tasted fabulous! Enda - the Chief Proprietor was... More

My fiancé's daughter was married on 1st October 2016. Her wedding reception was held in The Village Tavern, and they could not have done it better! Let's just say that 60 guests were served HOT, FRESH FOOD, PERFECTLY COOKED, AND WITH GREAT ABUNDANCE AND VARIETY!!! Steak, Chicken, or Salmon (and even an omelette for a vegetarian) were expertly served with... More

Cod fish cakes were tasty. Very tender tasty slow cooked roast beef - I prefer it rare but it was good. Served with good mash and veg the way it should be cooked. Really nice. The battered fish was very good also. Been here twice now and the only fault would be that it is a bit slow - but... More

Having lived in Ireland before, I wasn't sure about the raving reviews - it seemed like a convenient spot to park tour groups, which could account for a lot of the reviews. However, I needn't have worried, because although there definitely are lots of tours stopping over here (with a very odd choice of music to entertain them), the food... More

There was a great buzz, brilliant service and we had a most enjoyable dining experience. I would highly recommend this as a place to... More

Maybe the restaurant had a bad day... - 1* service was very slow, waited 15 min to take order and nearly further 45min for food. Also later coming guest got served before... - 2* food, we cannot follow the good reviews... Fries had not been in enough hot oil-> fully soaked with oil. Fried fish was in best case mediocre.... We first visited the Village Tavern last summer, and the memories have lingered. This time we knew to book ahead. We ate seafood platters, delicious steaks, and hearty portions of spuds (chips and mash) on the side. The Village Tavern manages to combine the charm, chatter and craic of an Irish pub with the quality of a top class restaurant.... More
