Hi, myself and my girlfriend were back in Galway for the first time in over three years and boy has it changed.... for the better ! Just by chance wepopped into the Central 56 restaurant on Shop st. Mostly because of the rain, but a...stroke of good luck for us that we did. Its a fine airy place with a great menu and just oozing with history. The staff are great, friendly and attentive. We were served by a lovely cailin called Rose. She was so charming and helpful. By pure coincidence she told us her parents own the famous Burren bar in Boston which is not only the biggest traditional music venue on the east coast but also our favourite hang out at home. So I guess this is a double recommendation for two great restaurants on either side of the AtlanticMore

Stopped for breakfast on a Monday morning. Staff very helpful and I sat outside. Its really nice to have this option as it wasn't raining. Unfortunately the outdoor area could really do with a revamp as its a little gem. Breakfast was just ok, zesty...avocado, scrambled egg on bruschetta. Could really be so much more, avocado was akin to baby food, too much lime juice added. Bread extremely thin, so felt like a bit of crust.More

Visited on 5-August, wasn’t going to write a review but wouldn’t want anybody having the trouble we had. We waited downstairs as instructed by their sign. Waited 30 mins, a girl came down and said it would be 5 more mins. 15 mins later, still...standing there, went upstairs to be told by manager that we should have come up “that girl is only new.” Served a glass with a chip that would take off a lip, made it very clear that one meal needed to be gluten free and this was totally disregarded. Manager had a stinking attitude. Avoid avoid avoidMore

I visited this establishment few times now and every time I liked the experience. On my last visit I also brought two guests from Austria because I wanted to take them to an Irish restaurant that I could be proud of (what a great decision)....The staff is young and friendly and served us with smile & willing to satisfied us. The food was exquisite and scrumptious. The ambience of the place is very hip and indeed lots of young people coming to eat there. The prices is very reasonable (especially when all the restaurants were closed for so long) - and my guests & I thoroughly enjoyed my last visit there. Overall - I was extremely satisfied from the food, service & ambience and I will definitely recommend to all of my friends to visit this wonderful place.More

We're Austrian visitors, heard of this lovely place and checked it out - what a great surprise! Wonderful people, even with gluten free and lactose free options, and so warm and welcoming! Loved it, will definitely come back!

We have visited this establishment on a number of occasions, starting last year. On our most recent visit we would love to have awarded this place a higher rating as the food is good, but it is too expensive and the service is not good....So it only deserves 3/5. The main grumbles are the much smaller menu than last year, meaning that there are no options such as scones, croissants, pastries and you end up having to buy a full breakfast. This means it ends up being very expensive even if you aren’t that hungry. Yesterday I ordered a full breakfast. It was very nice and I really enjoyed it. It cost €12.50, but I had to pay extra for coffee and orange juice. The orange juice was not even freshly squeezed but cost €2.70, so all in all a breakfast with a coffee ended up costing over €18. Crazy!!! My wife wasn’t hungry and wanted a pastry or something smaller but there was zero flexibility in anything that wasn’t on the menu. In terms of the service. We went there two days in a row. The second day only because it was Sunday and there was no other option. We were left waiting for over 15 minutes by a waitress the first day, who showed no urgency whatsoever. The second day She ended up serving another table first, that arrived after us, and totally forgot a table that arrived before we did. When we said we hadn’t ordered she didn’t apologise or say anything. They were not even busy so there is really no excuse. It seems like staff who have no urgency and have not been trained about customer service. Overall this place has disimproved and they don’t seem to really care whether it’s good or not. I wouldn’t go back personally as the price doesn’t justify the experience and nobody likes feeling like they are just a distraction to the waiting staff. Find somewhere else which in Galway is not a problem.More

The outside of Central 56 does not represent the light and modern interior so don't be deceived on your first visit. My partner and I ordered pancakes, one sweet and one savoury along with some coffees. All was served in a timely and efficient manner....The staff were very friendly though newer members of staff might require a little more training just to boost their confidence with customers and colleagues! We loved our breakfast and would definitely return!More
