We had a lovely evening meal at Merchants 1688. The staff were really attentive and service was timely. Food was delicious, we felt that everything in each dish we had complimented each other perfectly. Reasonably priced for such high quality food. The atmosphere is very...nice and a unique setting too. Would highly recommend!More

Very pleasant impromptu visit, meant to have ‘just one’ but stayed for a few more in the mid afternoon sunshine outside. Tried a few real ales, all good, plus snacks. Service was prompt from friendly staff. Guess it may be very popular for evening drinkers...or diners. Certainly will revisit when next in the area.More

The welcome and efficiency of service were great. The staff were eager to give our party a good experience. We had pre-booked our food. I was a bit disappointed that my triple cooked chips were lukewarm. I have no doubt that if I had drawn...attention to it the staff would have remedied the problem. ( I was too hungry to complain) The fish was fresh, hot and battered nicely. The food was of a good standard for pub fayre. The staff were outstanding in their service.More

We made a stop off in Lancaster on the way home from Scotland to grab some food. Luckily we chose Merchants. I had the Deli main and my partner had the ploughman’s salad, both were delicious. We now get to the best bit the desserts.I...had the apple mousse with almond cake and apple sorbet and my partner had the sticky toffee pudding. I have to say they were outstanding and the apple was one of the best desserts I’ve ever eaten. I can’t recommend Merchants enough.More

The restaurant is situated in an underground wine cellar and provides a great atmosphere for a meal or drinks. The food was excellent - I had the venison and my partner had the pork belly. The portions are a good size. The staff are very...friendly and welcoming. The wine was ok - not the best we’ve ever tasted. Music should be more varied - we listened to the entire High Musical soundtrack which played continuously whilst we were there!More

We went to Merchants for lunch and it was excellent. The old was delicious and the staff very helpful. The Merchant also has a great beer garden and has a great look inside.

Visited here last night with friends. It was booked up but the staff managed to find a table for us and we weren't disappointed. The food is amazing - we had venison with blackpudding hotpot, belly pork, fillet steak, chips and roast veg. It was...all tasty and well presented. Staff and service great, will definitely be returning.More

Very cool atmosphere and incredible food! I had the haddock and chips, which was huge! The waitress brought it over and called it the whale and chips. My boyfriend had the herb crusted duck egg and gnocchi, he said ‘it was fit’. For dessert we...both had the sticky toffee pudding. The sauce was to die for and the pistachio ice cream was delicious!More
