Not far from The other weatherspoons (The Red Lion, where I was staying over night) 1st night of 10pm close so I visited at 18.00 as I thought it would get too many in later, however it was not busy at all, in fact for...a friday evening it was empty, so quiet safe I hope. Staff were brilliant and asked regulary if you wanted more drinks bringing to the table, had a good steak and kid Pudd peas and mash with a drink for just over£7.More
The Gate House is a okay pub, it’s cheap- it’s also pretty grim. The actual pub it’s self is pretty dark and gloomy, there’s no natural light and I feel it’s a pretty uncomfortable layout. The bar staff aren’t particularly clued you on what’s what-...so if you order for example a glenmorangie you tend to get a blank stare.... The food isn’t great either and the little condiment basket thing is normally pretty dirty with half filled dirty bottles of sauce. There’s so so so many better places to visit in a similar price range.More
Covid review There's had sanitiser on the way in. there's a form to fill in if you want to. At the bar there are spots on the floor to show you where to queue. i was in the wrong place and one of the staff...helpfully pointed me to the right place :-) You queue at the till and order there (or use their app). They prefer contactless but you can still use cash. I couldn't see any other patrons wearing a mask other than myself. There are only screens between tables at the back and that's where i sat. Pub is easy to locate, must admit it is bit hidden away, on Gate House High Street, does have outside seating and plenty of tables inside. In an area teeming with pubs, bars and restaurants The Gate House is an absolutely fantastic Wetherspoon pub,...we always visit it when in Doncaster. Visited this Wetherspoons earlier this year, we should have been in Benidorm celebrating St Patricks Day. But due to covid-19 this did not happen, so we went for a day out drinking around Doncaster instead. Sat down, the drinks arrived and not long after this the meals came, we were not disappointed, very quick service. We for some reason prefer the food in here, compared to the Red Lion which isn’t that far away really Used the app to order which was quick, easy and efficient, always advocate this when in Spoons, APP service was quick arriving soon after. Nice place, clean, cheerful staff, good and varied selection of drinks, great value for money. Never wrote this yet in a spoons review, but yes the toilets are upstairs, a long stair case, but you could always buy a radar key off eBay and use the disabled. I have to say the bar staff are lovely and friendly, very welcoming, we also ended up there on our way back towards the Frenchgate Centre to catch the train home as well. From a fairly light snack to a full on meal Wetherspoons have it all, we all love Spoons pubs, great food and drink deals, with superb locations making them all well worth visiting.More
Always been the best choice for large selection of quality beers at the best prices, but I & my wife were disappointed with our first ever meal there. Called in March 12th for a birthday meal out. Ordered an 11' "meat feast pizza" (£7..95) &...small plate of nachos (£4.15 ...no large size available .... thankfully upon trying them). The pizza was about 95% dough, 6 very tiny pieces of pepperoni & a few very small pieces of ham. Very thin mozzarella cheese coating with the outer part of the pizza just being dough with no topping. The nachos were like a dozen very soggy doritos, all stuck (glued !!!) together, hard work to seperate them even with a knife & fork, with a small amount of chilli / guacamole / mayo sauce. The menu advertised "Curry Club Thursday" .... maybe we should have opted for a curry. Maybe the chef was having an off-day, I don't know. We won't be eating there again. Definitely a great drinking venue though, if you like a good choice of great beers at low prices.More
Visit every now and again. Decided to drop in early and have a breakfast with coffee. Served by a most obliging and friendly member of staff - Rachel. £5 well spent and the meal was cooked to perfection. Soon eaten and not a thing left...on the plate. Always enjoy friendliness of other customers too. A great place.More
Saturday 30 November 2019, I called in the Gate House with old work mates, to which we have a reunion every year. The pub was full with a good atmosphere , we had a few rounds of drinks with me being a real ale drinker,...there was plenty on offer. We had a good time.More
We travel around a lot (football fan!) and always head to the local Wetherspoon as it is a known quantity. Easy to find and well located - but pub is pretty dated and is a little tired around the edges. Notwithstanding that - the usual...food menu, teas & coffees good and staff were friendly. Noticed the beers priced at £2.09 which is great value - and judging by the number of locals drinking beer at 9.30 on a Sunday morning this can only be a good thing! (in fairness it was the Rugby semi finals!!)More
Free wifi. Rotating selection of cask real ale for only 2.09. What's not to like? They also have mangers specials sometimes late afternoon/early evening. I spotted mixed grill for only 4.99, very good value for money. They sometimes have drinks specials too, look at the...screens next to the tills. Monday night they have 10p a pint off the cask real ales.More
